Frequently Asked Questions
In the Fall of 2021, Build Up SMC had an open call for applicants to its grant program supporting Family Child Care homes with the enrollment of Infants and Toddlers in full-time care across San Mateo County.
We are currently in the second round of applicant review and the following is open only to those who completed the fall application:

PROVIDING CARE FOR INFANTS AND TODDLERS
A non-negotiable component of this grant funding is that family child care home providers will commit to enrolling infants and toddlers in addition to increasing their license capacity, when possible.
For the purpose of this grant, 'Infants and Toddlers' shall refer to children under 24 months of age per the definition by Community Care Licensing (CCL).
Please consider capacity requirements set forth by CCL before applying for this grant. They can be found in the Manual of Policies and Procedures by CCL for Family Child Care Homes (pg.73) and are also listed below for your reference:
102416.5 STAFFING RATIO AND CAPACITY
( b ) For a Small Family Child Care Home, the maximum number of children for whom care may be provided at any one time, including children under age 10 who reside at the licensee's home, shall be one of the following:
( 1 ) Four infants; or
( 2 ) Six children, no more than three of whom may be infants
( d ) For a Large Family Child Care Home, the maximum number of children for whom care may be provided at any one time when there is an assistant provider in the home, including children under age 10 who reside at the licensee's home, shall be either:
( 1 ) Twelve children, no more than FOUR of whom may be infants;
( e ) If no assistant provider is present at a Large Family Child Care Home, then the licensee shall comply with the capacity requirements for a Small Family Child Care Home as specified in Health and section 1597.465,
( b ) No more than three infants are cared for during any time when more than 12 children are being cared for.
