So we all know that Google is powerful in search. But that’s not the whole story. Bing controls a massive 30% of the search market. That’s huge! And while Yahoo’s 5% is not massive, consider the number of searches every day – literally millions of Yahoo searches. Why would you let that just slip aside?
That means it’s important to work with a marketer whose knowledge extends beyond the Google continuum. Again, obviously, Google is really critical. But you need the other searches! Bing’s 30% of marketshare is massive. Would you want one in three customers to never find you, just because you ignored a major search engine? Certainly not!
The brainchild of Microsoft, Bing is bundled with their software and is the default on many Windows systems. If you have high rankings on Bing, even without Google, you’ve got a really nice slice of the potential consumer dollars.
And Yahoo may be small, but its supporters are loyal. Plus, “small” is relative. Getting top rankings on Yahoo could get you found by thousands of people. Don’t let yourself overlook that!
Don’t forget to consider Baidu. Google doesn’t operate in China. That means if you want to catch the massive Chinese consumer market, you’re going to need Baidu on your side. Make sure that your marketing expert can help with Baidu.
AOL still has a powerful built-in userbase, and they’re very loyal. It’s a critical search engine. Make sure you don’t ignore it.
Excite and DuckDuckGo are not the largest engines, but they’re both powerful and well-loved by their hardcore adherents. Cover your bases and be sure to work with them!
You owe it to yourself to make sure that your site has the highest possible search engine ranking, not just on Google, but also on all the search engines. This is absolutely critical. Make it a core part of your web strategy!
