In an exclusive TIME interview moderated by Lethal North, Vice Presidential candidates Joseph Mitchell and Jennifer Carey outlined sharply defined visions for leadership. Mitchell emphasized national security, small business growth, expanded public transit, and a signature initiative called “Under the Dome” to increase transparency, while highlighting his proven record of bipartisan collaboration in the Senate. Carey focused on reviving government activity, strengthening department accountability, and launching a Department Revival Task Force to bolster the executive branch, drawing on her extensive experience as Speaker and in the Cabinet. Both underscored steady crisis leadership, citizen engagement, and leaving legacies rooted in results rather than rhetoric.
Lethal North (TIME): Both of you are running for Vice President during a pivotal moment. Let’s start broad. What would be your top priorities if you won?
Joseph Mitchell: As a Vice President, my main goals will be to promote national security, assist and stimulate small businesses, and broaden public transport. I will team up with the legislature to allocate the money to arms manufacturers and also create jobs, launch programs aimed at the growth of small business and disburse transit benefits to citizens. Funding of these programs will spur economic growth, development, and a safer community. I’ll meet regularly with the President, bipartisan leaders, and heads of agencies to build consensus. By publishing clear progress report and constantly hosting citizen involved events, I’ll ensure every single voice is heard while the administrations goals are advancing. In any crisis, I’ll stay calm, coordinate response teams, and communicate in a timely matter with the public. My role is to give the President my honest advice, and reassure the citizens of our great country through clarity and compassion. I’ll launch “Under the Dome”, a Vice Presidential event updating citizens directly about the Administration’s progress. Creating citizen advisory councils will give Americans input on our major issues, and will ensure transparency, accountability, and unity. I want to leave a legacy of results and not rhetoric. Citizens should trust me because I’ve delivered reforms and policies in the Senate. I’ve proven my commitment to service over ambition. My Vice Presidency will focus on real solutions that improve the life of citizens.
Jennifer Carey: My top three priorities as VP would be to increase activity in our government, expand department revival efforts and implement accountability measures for government officials. I plan to do this by hosting events to engage citizens, create a revival task force where Secretaries can help departments with initiatives, meet legislators to create new legislation aimed at ensuring more accountability in departments and meet with figures in the house to discuss weekly hearings with Secretaries to improve realism and oversight.
Lethal North (TIME): Experience is often what sets candidates apart. How has your background prepared you for this role?
Joseph Mitchell: I’ll meet regularly with the President, bipartisan leaders, and heads of agencies to build consensus. By publishing clear progress report and constantly hosting citizen involved events, I’ll ensure every single voice is heard while the administrations goals are advancing.
Jennifer Carey: I’ve got experience of serving in both Chambers of Congress and serving in cabinet so I’m aware of how each role operates effectively. I would foster collaboration by focusing on the job. During my time as Speaker, I had to spend weeks trying to negotiate with other members to create a budget. It was a tough job because many individuals wanted different things but my priority was to get it passed and on the Presidents desk. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without establishing communications between parties, focusing on the task and ensuring all members were on board.
Lethal North (TIME): Crises define leadership. How would you handle one?
Joseph Mitchell: In any crisis, I’ll stay calm, coordinate response teams, and communicate in a timely matter with the public. My role is to give the President my honest advice, and reassure the citizens of our great country through clarity and compassion.
Jennifer Carey: The steps I would take to provide steady leadership in a crisis would be to first communicate with individuals to understand the situation. Understanding the crisis and learning how it happened is essential to solving it. My next step would be to discuss with the President and others to determine how this crisis can be resolved. Ensuring all voices are heard is important. Once a plan is approved I would work with whoever and do whatever to resolve the crisis. Throughout my time in the cabinet, I’ve learned that whatever issue we may face, a crisis is best solved as a team.
Lethal North (TIME): Beyond crisis response, what unique initiatives would you launch as Vice President?
Joseph Mitchell: I’ll launch “Under the Dome”, a Vice Presidential event updating citizens directly about the Administration’s progress. Creating citizen advisory councils will give Americans input on our major issues, and will ensure transparency, accountability, and unity.
Jennifer Carey: The initiatives I’d implement would be to expand department revival efforts by creating a department revival task force designed to encourage collaboration and development in our Departments. The Secretaries are qualified and experienced at the type of work they do but we’ve had departments that have gone inactive or have lacked enough resources to operate. This task force would be made up of Secretaries past and current that would work with eachother to help improve our executive. This initiative will aim to improve transparency and citizen engagement.
Lethal North (TIME): Finally legacy. How do you want to be remembered?
Joseph Mitchell: I want to leave a legacy of results and not rhetoric. Citizens should trust me because I’ve delivered reforms and policies in the Senate. I’ve proven my commitment to service over ambition. My Vice Presidency will focus on real solutions that improve the life of citizens.
Jennifer Carey: I believe that citizens should trust me to carry out these goals because I’ve achieved and carried out the objectives I’ve set myself from the senate, to the house and to the executive branch. My plans are simple, clear and will be highly effective. If I do get elected, I hope to be known for actually making positive changes in our community that prove that change can and will be made.
