CARE FOR YOUR PIANO
Your piano was a big investment and so are the piano lessons. To get the most out of your piano you should have it serviced regularly. Regular service will guarantee you get the most out of this musical investment. You should have your piano tuned at least once per year; twice per year is better. New pianos should be tuned three or four times during the first year.
Pianos are designed to be tuned at A-440. Everything in the design: the frame, plate, strings, and scaling are all based on the piano being in tune at A-440. When the tuning is off or the piano is low in pitch all of the intervals and chords will have a bad sound. Pianos that go for long periods of time without proper care stand the risk of needing major repairs.
Proper care will bring you and your family a lifetime of musical enjoyment.
Do's and Don'ts
Do tune your piano at least once per year. Twice is better.
Do not use any polish on poly finishes; only use a clean damp cloth to clean off any smudges or residue; any dirt in the clothe will scratch the poly finish.
Do not use any products that have silicon in them on the finish.
Do not locate your piano directly under your air condition or heating vent.
Do not use regular aerosol furniture polish on your piano. This can damage the finish. Use paste wax after you have cleaned the piano and removed the old polish.
Avoid big changes in temperature and humidity. This is the biggest reason a piano goes out of tune.
Do have your piano moth proofed. Moth larvae are piano killers; they love to eat the felt in the action and key bed of pianos.
Keep the keys clean with warm water and a mild soap solution. Make sure the rag is only damp; don't let any water drip or run down the sides of the keys.
Locate your piano on an interior wall away from windows or direct sunlight.
Do not set any drinks or liquids on your piano. This could ruin the finish, or worse, spill inside the piano.
