Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 16, 2026
⚠ Notice of Update
This Privacy Policy was updated on March 16, 2026. Key changes from the previous version include the addition of a Permissions section that clearly explains every Android permission the app requests and why, and clarification that salary and attendee data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to any server.
Burn Rate (“the App”) is a meeting cost calculator for Android. It helps teams understand the real financial cost of meetings by tracking time and calculating cost based on attendee pay grades. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App uses, what permissions it requires, and how your information is handled.
By using Burn Rate you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
The following data is entered by you and stored exclusively on your device using Android’s DataStore. It is never transmitted to any server, never shared with Anthropic or any third party, and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
Pay grades — custom labels and annual salary amounts you create
Attendee entries — role labels, pay grade assignments, and headcounts (no real names are required)
Meeting records — duration, cost totals, notes, and verdicts saved to meeting history
Meeting name and icon preference
The App integrates Google AdMob to display advertisements to users who have not purchased the Remove Ads option. AdMob may collect:
Advertising ID (GAID) — used to serve ads. Non-personalised ads are served; the App does not implement a personalised-ads consent dialog.
No analytics SDK (e.g. Firebase Analytics) or crash-reporting SDK (e.g. Firebase Crashlytics) is included in this version of the App.
The Remove Ads purchase is processed entirely by Google Play Billing. The App does not receive or store any payment card information. Google’s own Privacy Policy governs that transaction.
The table below lists every Android permission declared in the App’s manifest, why it is needed, and whether it is required for core functionality.
Permission
Why It Is Used
Required?
INTERNET
Required by Google AdMob to request and display advertisements, and by Google Play Billing to verify in-app purchases.
Yes — needed for ads and IAP
FOREGROUND_SERVICE
Allows the app to run a foreground service that keeps the meeting cost timer ticking while the screen is off or the user is in another app.
Yes — needed for background timer
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE
Required on Android 14+ to declare a foreground service whose type does not fit a standard category (the timer is a productivity tool, not media/location/etc.).
Yes — Android 14+ requirement
POST_NOTIFICATIONS
Required on Android 13+ to display the persistent timer notification on the lock screen and in the notification shade while a meeting is running. The user is prompted to grant this permission at runtime.
Yes — needed for timer notification
The App does NOT request or use the following permissions: location (approximate or precise), camera, microphone, contacts, phone state, SMS, storage/files, biometrics, or any other sensitive permission not listed above.
The App includes a Share Report button on the meeting summary screen. Tapping it opens Android’s system share sheet, which lets you send a plain-text meeting report via any app you choose (e.g. email, messaging, notes).
The App itself does not transmit this data anywhere. The destination is entirely under your control. The report contains only the information you entered: meeting name, duration, cost figures, attendee roles, and any notes you typed.
AdMob is used to display banner and interstitial advertisements to users who have not purchased Remove Ads. AdMob may collect the Advertising ID and other device signals to serve ads. Users who purchase Remove Ads will no longer be shown AdMob advertisements.

The one-time Remove Ads purchase is handled by Google Play Billing. The App receives only a purchase token to verify the transaction. No payment data is stored in the App.

All data you enter (pay grades, attendees, meeting history) is stored locally on your device indefinitely until you delete it or uninstall the App.
Meeting records can be deleted individually from the History screen.
Attendees can be cleared using the Reset button on the Setup screen.
Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.
The App provides no account system and no server-side storage, so there is no remote data to request deletion of.
Burn Rate is a business productivity tool intended for use by adults in a professional context. The App is rated Everyone on Google Play and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document and, for significant changes, display an in-app notice on the next launch. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
Previous versions of this Privacy Policy are available on request by contacting us at the address below.
