“Lead by example. Our team is personally invested in our fundraising efforts and this energy and enthusiasm is felt by our friends and families inspiring them to donate and support us.”
That’s what Team Mission Megaloid captain Joyce Nixon had to say to other would-be teams to inspire them to take part.
Megaloid Laboratories is a relatively new team – they have been participating for the last four years (including this year), but quickly became Burlington’s top team in terms of funds raised. So, naturally, we wanted to know their secret. Over the past four years, their team has raised $38,167.00, with that number still coming in for 2023. Surely, if one small but mighty team can do it, so can others.
“We made the Terry Fox Run one of our annual social activities where we get to hang out as a team, and after the walk we all go to a local restaurant for lunch,” said Nixon.
It’s become something that Megaloid employees look forward to each year.
While there are plenty of charities to give to and plenty of local events to attend, we wondered what made the Terry Fox Run the event of choice for Mission Megaloid.
“Everyone at Megaloid has had cancer touch them at some point in their lives and both the founders of the company are cancer survivors. We are moved by Terry’s story and love the chance to contribute to our community and be a part of the event.”
Many Canadians feel a deep connection to Terry’s story. His legacy to encourage donations to find the cure to cancer and this event resonates with many of our participants.
“We all followed Terry’s run as kids and we are inspired by his courage and selflessness,” said Nixon. “His drive to raise awareness and funds was truly amazing. As a team we set a high value on community involvement and Terry is symbolic of the battle against cancer that we all feel strongly about.”
