Burlington Probus Club
SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2020
Greetings to all club members.
A special committee meeting was held on 11th August to discuss Covid19 and its impact on our programme for the rest of the year.
The church has to limit their congregation to a maximum of 38. As a consequence, they have removed all the excess seats and are storing them in the hall where we usually meet.
The catering facilities are closed until further notice.
This looks to be the situation till the New Year. As a consequence, there will be no club meeting to the 31st December 2020. We shall advise regarding 2021 when further information is available.
Peter Horobin has been in contact with the Expanse Hotel and they advise they can accommodate a maximum of forty persons for our Christmas Lunch. The joint lunch with Bridlington Probus has been cancelled by them.
Peter would therefore like all those who would be interested in attending the Christmas Probus Club lunch to notify him by 31st August please so that he can resolve numbers. You can phone him on 01262 228487.
As an aside Peter advised that The Expanse is now doing Sunday lunches with appropriate spacing.
Pat Norton who has been speaker finder for the club for the last six years has retired from the position in April of this year. Are there any club members interested in taking the job on? Can be one or more people sharing the job. Pat will be available for advice. Please contact Peter Horobin on 01262 228487
At a previous committee meeting we agreed that we would start to attend the annual Remembrance Day Parades, this year to be Sunday 8th November. Unfortunately, due to that villain Covid19 a maximum of 30 persons only can attend the parade itself. However, members of the public can view the event around the Cenotaph. The club will be purchasing a wreath from the British Legion and Peter Horobin as chairman will be able to place it at the Cenotaph after 12 noon when the parade has finished, he will be accompanied by Stewart Mitchell. Any club member can attend as a member of the public.
To those of you who have received a hard copy of this newsletter can I ask if you have an email address I can write to.
Saves the club money and makes it easier for me as secretary to spread information quickly.

AUTUMN NEWSLETTER 2020
Greetings to all club members.
A reminder that the Christmas Lunch in December has been cancelled by The Expanse Hotel.
I have previously advised of the death of David Mottram, Beryl his widow has expressed her thanks for all the cards that she has received. She is well and has her family for support.
Very recently one of the club widows Vera Thompson has died. She was 97 years old. She fell and cracked her hip. Recovered well in hospital and was put into a convalescent home where she unfortunately passed away; not of Covid19 thankfully. I have sent a card to her family on behalf of the club.
I am sure you will be happy to learn that the committee has decided with the lack of activity within the club this year that there will be no fees for 2021.
It is not expected that we shall have a programme January to April 2021 as the church still has issues with numbers and are using the meeting room as storage.
I am working on hopefully a programme for September 2021 onwards; yet again dependent on the villain Covid.
The Links Golf Club advise that we can meet only as a maximum of 6. As there are 8 on the committee we have agreed not to meet in the flesh, but do communicate regularly. Should anyone have any issues or queries please write to my email or phone me up and I will pass to committee for discussion.

Words on card are-
LEST WE FORGET
We remember those who
Lay down their lives for us
And freedom.
THEY are the true HEROES
We owe a debt we can
NEVER repay.
LET US NEVER FORGET
.

Having written the above I am now informed by East Riding Council that we are due to move into Tier 2 from 00:01am Sunday morning. Please everyone take very extra care, keep distances; wear mask; wash hands very regularly.
We want to see you all when our programme of meetings re-commences, of which I am hoping September 2021.
