While the big three fast-food burger chains generally keep at least some locations open on Christmas, few people associate the holiday season with getting a burger and some fries. It's not that McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's don't do some business over the holiday (not everyone can make an edible turkey) but it's generally a quiet time for all three companies.

Wendy's has passed Burger King as the number two burger chain in the U.S. behind McDonald's partly because of its value offerings. The chain still has its 4 for $4 deal which includes a Junior Cheeseburger, 4-piece chicken nuggets, a small fries, and a drink.

The chain's core value offer, however, is its $5 Biggie Bag, which offers a choice of sandwiches including a Crispy Chicken, or a Junion Bacon Cheeseburger. For $6, Wendy's has a Biggie Bag where you can pick a Double Stack or Crispy Chicken BLT while the $7 version of the Biggie Bag deal offers a Bacon Double Stack. Wendy's also has a $6 Biggie Bag.

"As part of the deal, you can mix and match any two of the following select menu items for 5 bucks," Chew Boom first reported. The choices include the Original BK Royal Crispy Wrap, Spicy BK Royal Crispy Wrap, Honey Mustard BK Royal Crispy Wrap, and the Whopper Jr."

"The team's focus on operations has led to continued improvements in guest satisfaction and an increase in product satisfaction across a few key offerings, including the Whopper, nuggets, and fries," he shared. "By layering this with high-quality marketing and targeted menu innovation, we've been able to improve our value proposition, attract new guests, improve retention, and drive our traffic gap to peers into positive territory beginning in mid-August."

Back in 2019, Burger King was one of the first national chains to add the plant-based Impossible Burger to its menu. The famous Impossible Whopper, which can be ordered vegan without the mayonnaise, became an instant hit for the company.

Since then, it has built on that success significantly. Around the world, its vegan menu is rapidly expanding, and the company has even trialed entirely plant-based locations in a few countries (albeit none in the US yet).

The fast-food giant is hosting its second UK plant-based pop-up (the first was in London in April 2022) at its Cribbs Causeway spot until November 6. The menu includes 24 vegan items, including a Bakon King, a Vegan Nugget Burger, a Plant-Based Double Whopper, and Vegan Chilli Cheeeze Bites. Plus, the chain added three La Vie vegan bacon cheeseburgers to the menu at participating locations throughout the UK.

Other countries where Burger King has trialed 100-percent vegan or meat-free restaurants include Austria, Switzerland, Chile, Spain, and just recently, Israel. Plus, in Germany, the fast-food chain began offering a vegan version for every meat option on its menu earlier this year. And in France, it added vegan bacon to its Veggie Steakhouse Burgers last June.

The US may be waiting for more vegan options to arrive on the Burger King menu, but until then, you still have plenty of choices. From the little-known vegan French Toast Sticks to the build-your-own sandwich option, here is everything you need to know to order vegan at Burger King US.

The humble hash brown is a reliable vegan staple across diners and drive-thrus alike. These fried potatoes are served as coin-shaped nuggets which are ideal for dipping and snacking. Keep in mind, the breakfast menu is only available until 10:30am.

Burger King is so confident its new plant-based burgers in Sweden taste like real meat that it is asking customers to order off a random menu and guess whether they're eating real meat or an imitation.

The burger chain recently launched two plant-based burgers in Sweden. They're meatless versions of the classic Whopper and of a "Crispy Chicken" sandwich called the "Rebel Whopper" and "Rebel Chicken King." The new products will soon be launching in other countries in Europe, Burger King said in a statement. Burger King has more than 16,000 restaurants in the world, with 135 in Sweden, the chain said.

To get consumers to believe the new sandwiches "taste so similar to real meat that you won't notice any difference," the restaurant has launched a "50/50 menu." If customers order off that menu, they'll be randomly served a plant-based or regular meat patty. Then they'll have to guess which one they're eating.

Curious customers can then scan their box in the Burger King app to find out. Data from the guesses will be collected and used for ads that will run later this summer (regardless of how many guesses were correct or incorrect, the chain said). Burger King is working with creative agency Ingo Stockholm for the campaign.

The campaign comes as meat substitutes are becoming popular with consumers. Earlier this year, Burger King announced it was testing Impossible Burgers, which are known to "bleed" just like real burger patties. It then said it would launch the product nationwide this year.

Pillsbury's Executive Vice President of Restaurant Operations Norman E. Brinker was tasked with turning the brand around, and strengthening its position against its main rival McDonald's. One of his initiatives was a new advertising campaign featuring a series of attack ads against its major competitors. This campaign started a competitive period between Burger King, McDonald's, and top burger chains known as the Burger wars.[15] Brinker left Burger King in 1984, to take over Dallas-based gourmet burger chain Chili's.[16]

After Gibbon's departure, a series of CEOs each tried to repair the company's brand by changing the menu, bringing in new ad agencies and many other changes.[26][27][28] The parental disregard of the Burger King brand continued with Grand Metropolitan's merger with Guinness in 1997 when the two organizations formed the holding company Diageo.[29] Eventually, the ongoing systematic institutional neglect of the brand through a string of owners damaged the company to the point where major franchises were driven out of business, and its total value was significantly decreased.[30] Diageo eventually decided to divest itself of the money-losing chain and put the company up for sale in 2000.[31][32]

In August 2014, 3G announced that it planned to acquire the Canadian restaurant and coffee shop chain Tim Hortons and merge it with Burger King with backing from Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. The two chains will retain separate operations post-merger, with Burger King remaining in its Miami headquarters.[50] A Tim Hortons representative stated that the proposed merger would allow Tim Hortons to leverage Burger King's resources for international growth. The combined company will be the third-largest international chain of fast food restaurants.[51][52] The deal lead to a controversy over the practice of tax inversions, in which a company decreases the amount of taxes it pays by moving its headquarters to a tax haven, a country with lower rates but maintains the majority of their operations in their previous location. As a high-profile instance of tax inversion, news of the merger was criticized by U.S. politicians, who felt that the move would result in a loss of tax revenue to foreign interests, and could result in further government pressure against inversions.[52][53][54][55]

Burger King was formerly headquartered in a nine-story office tower by the Miami International Airport in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida.[80] Elaine Walker of the Miami Herald stated that the headquarters has a "Burger King" sign that drivers on State Road 836 "can't miss". In addition, the chain planned to build a neon sign on the roof to advertise the brand to passengers landing at the airport. On Monday July 8, 2002, 130 employees began working at the Burger King headquarters with the remainder moving in phases in August 2002. Prior to the moving to its current headquarters in 2002, Burger King had considered moving away from the Miami area to Texas; Miami-Dade County politicians and leaders lobbied against this, and Burger King stayed.[81] In August 2014, the future of the company's Miami headquarters was again in doubt as reports surfaced that Burger King was in talks about buying the Canadian restaurant chain Tim Hortons, with a view to relocating its headquarters to Canada where the corporate tax rate was lower.[82][83] The merger between Burger King and Tim Hortons created the fast food company now known as Restaurant Brands International Inc.[84]
