I loved that BK now offered a plant based version for every burger, and they had even received the PETA Plant Based Award for the plant based long chicken. 5 products were certified as vegan, with separate fryers, vegan mayo and everything. Tried several burger, liked them all.

Are there any future plans or initiatives that Burger King Germany has in mind to further expand its vegan offerings or cater to the evolving demands of the plant-based market?

We are pleased that our plant-based products are becoming increasingly popular, so we are continuously working on product innovations and looking at how we can expand our plant-based range even further. To mark the start of Veganuary, we developed an exclusive product: the Plant-based Long Chicken Cheddar Style, for which we used a vegan cheese alternative from Violife for the first time.

However, we also want to develop further in other areas, such as milk alternatives, so we decided to cooperate with Oatly in ten restaurants. So far, the feedback on this has been very positive, especially in metropolitan areas like Berlin or Cologne, where the plant-based alternative has been very well received. But we are also currently looking around for alternatives in the desert area. We will continue to draw attention to our plant-based range and the importance of offering alternative protein sources in system gastronomy with further exciting campaigns and collaborations.

For the study*, a total of 1,070 women in Germany between the ages of 16 and 45* were asked about their eating preferences and habits during pregnancy. The survey indicated that pregnancy cravings mainly occur in the second trimester, and most often in the evening (45%). They usually disappear again immediately after the birth or a few weeks afterwards at the latest. Only 7% of the respondents confirmed that their cravings have persisted also after giving birth. The women surveyed said that pregnancy cravings for sweets (49%) are significantly stronger than for salty foods (31%). 55% of respondents also said they eat more fresh fruits and vegetables during pregnancy. At the same time, pregnancy cravings mean that women eat more chocolate (55%), cakes (53%) and potato crisps (47%) in particular, as well as fast food such as burgers (51%). This is not surprising, as 76% say that resistance to pregnancy cravings is impossible and that they are simply too strong.
