About the e-journal

Burdwan Journal of Sociology is a double blind referred annual e-journal of the Department of Sociology of The University of Burdwan, Burdwan, West Bengal, India. This is an open access journal and all journal contents are available via the web page of The University of Burdwan. Readers may download any article free of cost. Except for citation in scholarly work, no part of the journal should be reproduced in any form without permission.

Aims and Objectives

The e-journal is international in character in regard to its contents and coverage. It is fully peer reviewed by a distinguished Editorial Board members and external experts.It publishes high quality research papers, interviews and book reviews which are of particular interest to Sociologists and other social sciences. It encourages data based (both primary and secondary) quality research publications using sociological concepts and theories. It is open to both quantitative and qualitative works. While the journal encourages research publication of young scholars, it also welcomes contributions from senior scholars.

Copyright Policy

Copyrights of article published in the e-journal retains with the authors. The authors however give permission to the Editorial Board to publish their work and agree that users are allowed to copy and redistribute the work, transform and build upon it.

The responsibility for the facts stated, opinions expressed and conclusions drawn in the article, interviews and book reviews rests solely upon the authors. The Editors, Editorial Board members of the journal, the Referees and the University of Burdwan will not be responsible for them.

Plagiarism

While submitting the manuscript, the authors have to declare that the text is their original work and it does not contain any plagiarism and has not been published in or submitted to any other journal.

The editor scans all submitted papers in order to detect plagiarism. If plagiarism (more than 10 per cent) is detected, the paper is rejected from publication and the author is blacklisted for a period of three years.

Publication Ethics

In order to maintain the quality and integrity of the journal, the e-journal will publish only peer reviewed non-plagiarised articles. If any unethical behaviour is identified and brought to the attention of the editors at any time, by anyone, the article will be immediately withdrawn from the pool of published papers and the concerned author(s)will be blacklisted for a period of at least three years. Whoever informs the editors of such conduct should provide sufficient information and evidence in order for an investigation to be initiated.

All articles sent for publication in the e-journal will be subjected to double blind peer-review. Articles are first reviewed by the editors. The editors may initially reject it either because it does not match with the aims and objectives of the journal or because it is of low quality. Only suitable articles are accepted for review by an expert in the field who might also be an Editorial Board member. Referee of a paper will remain unknown to the author(s). Referees are asked to classify the paper as publishable immediately, publishable with amendments and improvements, or not publishable. Referees will send their evaluations based on guidelines sent to them. The comments of referees are then sent to the author(s).

All manuscripts will be evaluated without taking into consideration the caste, region, gender or political orientations of the authors. The decision to accept or reject a paper for publication should be based only on the basis of importance, originality and clarity, and relevance of the material to the aim of journal.

The Editors and members of the Editorial Board shall not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher. All information related to the material submitted would remain confidential during the process of review.
