Finally...Here it is!
Well, yes, I made it through the closing and finally have my own little "piece" of Italy! In all honesty, I feel that I got an amazing bargain on the apartment based on its size, location, amenities, and most importantly, its character! Even after almost two years, it still seems somewhat surreal that my dream came true...and yes, it took two years to finally make this site!
THE APARTMENT
The apartment's address for mailing is via Arduino 10, Ivrea, Italy 10015. You'll actually find the entrance to the apartment at #14, which is to the left of ten. As you can see in the picture above, there is a steel grated door that is the entrance to multiple apartments. My apartment is on the first floor, which makes it convenient for bringing in groceries, luggage, etc. When you enter into the hallway, watch the grated door behind you...if you don't catch it, it makes a huge bang when it closes!
There is a buzzer outside that you can buzz in to the apartment. The handset inside is located in the kitchen. Ideally, you should be able to pick up the handset, speak to the person and let them in, however, it is a bit janky. If someone buzzes, just go let them in rather than using the handset. You can see who they are through the door and if you don't know them, don't let them in!
THE SPECS
The apartment itself is about 800 square feet and consists of a living room and dining room combination, a large kitchen, a good sized master bedroom, one large full bathroom with a wash machine and dryer, a half bathroom off of the living room, and a private fenced in patio that is about 10 x 20. The floors are all either stone or tiled, and walls are primarily plastered stone. Some walls are drywall, but in general, stone. The apartment has gas heat, no air conditioning, however, because of its location on the first floor, it generally stays cooler.
The dining room table comfortably seats six people, and there is an island in the kitchen that has two stools. The sofa in the living room pulls out to a sleeper sofa, accommodating four people total, comfortably. Because of the location of the apartment, it is generally very quiet, due to retail spaces on each side of it.
The kitchen is fully "stocked", meaning that there are glasses, plates, silverware, pots and pans, etc. There's also a microwave as well. The refrigerator generally has water stocked but not much else due to my not being there often. Guests are welcome to cook, however, in my experience, there are so many great places to eat in Ivrea, I never cook while I am there....I ALWAYS eat out!
The windows in the living room open, as do the bathroom and the kitchen. There are plentiful mosquitoes in Ivrea during the summer, but no worries...one of the windows in the kitchen, the bathroom window and living room window all have screens!
Currently, there is no Wi-Fi in the apartment and no telephone, so we rely on cell phone service for internet and calls. We do have a television and an Apple TV. If you're an Apple user, you can stream content onto the TV.
