UBUNTU AUDIO IN BROWSER PROBLEM / MIXER ISSUE - UBUNTU ALSA >>>
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/audacity - and then:
sudo apt-get update - and then:
sudo apt-get install audacity
If yours is built-in and isn't showing up in this step, then you probably need to enable it in your BIOS. When you first reboot your computer, there's usually a key sequence listed telling you how to enter the BIOS configuration screen. >>> SEARCH
NO DEVICE SELECTION POSSIBLE UBUNTU AUDIO
TESTING NULL CLICK A SPEAKER TO TEST UBUNTU NOT SHOWING ANY SPEAKER
A standard test for speakers is to press Alt+<F2> and run
aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
You should hear a voice saying "Front Center". If it doesn't play the first time you run that command, try running it again as root.
sudo aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
If it still doesn't play, that means there is a problem with your configuration. If the sound plays as root, but not as a regular user, then you need to add the user to the "audio" group.
sudo addgroup <username> audio
https://askubuntu.com/questions/37589/alsa-permissions/37609#37609
DO THE TEST : sudo aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav
OR TRY sudo aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/*.*
SOUNDMODULES INSTALLED ?

sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r` linux-generic
6. Is the sound card physically installed and recognized by your hardware?
Open a terminal and type
lspci -v | grep -A7 -i "audio"
This should output some information about your audio hardware. An example is below.

In pavucontrol , does vumeter move when playing ? As your sound device is the 2nd one (as seen in alsamixer) , I suppose you know that you must select it as default in devices tab with green button .
After that and if you have dual boot , check fastboot is disabled in windows .
As you have problem since update, the new alsa driver may need additional parameter :
you can try to check your codec model :
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* |grep Cod
Then search your codec here or here and from the available models under this codec, add line with a similar model to your pc at the end of file:
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
F.i. if codec is ALC898 and pc is Lenovo Yoga:
options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo-y530
Try also
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
Command to check codec errors at boot:
dmesg |grep codec
