Coach Ty Jenkins enters his 7th season at the helm of the Bulldogs program.
Coach Ty Jenkins enters his seventh season at the helm of the Bunnell Bulldogs football program. His sixth season in 2025 marked a historic high point for both Jenkins and the program, as the Bulldogs posted a career-best 10–3 record.
The season was highlighted by a signature victory over #9-ranked Masuk in Week 2, which propelled Bunnell to its first-ever home playoff game and a dominant 42–6 playoff win over Fitch High School. Jenkins capped the remarkable season by leading the Bulldogs to their first State Championship appearance in 18 seasons, earning the Class MM State Finalist title after a dramatic 21–20 victory over #5-ranked Wilton High School. Bunnell finished the season ranked #10 in the state of Connecticut.
Under Jenkins’ leadership, the Bulldogs have also dominated their cross-town rival, winning four consecutive seasons at both the varsity and junior varsity levels. For the second consecutive year, Bunnell finished undefeated at home, further establishing Mastroni Field as a true home-field advantage.
Individual accolades followed the team’s success in 2025, with nine players earning All–Southwest Conference honors. Additionally, three Bulldogs were named All-State, including junior Rody Ricketts, who was selected to the Connecticut Top 30 Team, and Jamil Ortiz and Rickie Miller, who were named First Team Class M/MM All-State.
in his 5th season (2024) as the head coach of the Bunnell Bulldogs, continues to elevate the program to new heights. Under his leadership, the Bulldogs made their 8th-ever playoff appearance, securing the team’s first playoff victory in 17 years with a 21-12 win over Bristol Central in the quarterfinals. This milestone also marked the Bulldogs’ first trip to the semifinals since 2007. In the regular season, Coach Jenkins guided the team to an 8-2 record, their best under his tenure since he took over at Bunnell in 2019. His leadership helped 12 players earn recognition from the Southwest Conference (SWC), including six First Team selections. Additionally, 4 more of Jenkins's players received All-State honors, bringing his total to 10. Senior Offensive Linemen Aiden Garcia and Senior WR/DB Jordan Pierce, who was named to the Top 25 All-State Team, Junior Rickie Miller DE, and Senior Nate Banton DB were named to the Walter Camp All-State Teams.
In his 4th season (2023) , Coach Jenkins led the Bulldogs to their 7th-ever playoff berth, clinching a spot with a dominant 49-0 win over rival Stratford High School. The Bulldogs finished the regular season 7-3, marking a career-best for Jenkins. He was also named NEW YORK GIANTS COACH OF THE WEEK after a thrilling victory over previously unbeaten Notre Dame of Fairfield in Week 8. In total, 11 players earned league recognition, with five named First Team All-SWC, while Coach Jenkins also mentored his 6th All-State player in four seasons, Bulldog Panos Charitopoulos.
In his 3rd season(2022) , Jenkins’ squad showed continued improvement, finishing 6-4 with a high-powered offense averaging 32 points per game and a stingy defense allowing just 14 points per game. The team recorded four shutouts that season. A total of 8 players earned SWC honors, including four First Team selections, and Jenkins coached two more All-State players, Rohan Terrell and Michael Trovarelli.
Coach Jenkins' second season (2021) saw the Bulldogs double their win total from the previous year, finishing with a 6-4 record. The offense broke new ground, rushing for over 3,000 yards. The SWC recognized eight players, and seniors Matt Kochiss and Theodore Lanham both earned All-State honors.
In his second season of 2020, Coach Jenkins faced unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in the season's cancellation.
In his first full season in 2019, Jenkins led the Bulldogs to a 3-7 record, including a dominant 43-0 win over cross-town rival Stratford High. Six players earned SWC honors, and Senior DL CJ Newton was named First Team Class L All-State. Additionally, three seniors signed National Letters of Intent to continue their football careers at the collegiate level.
Coach Jenkins, a graduate of New London High School, played college football at Southern Connecticut State University, where he was a standout center.
He began his coaching career as the Defensive Coordinator at Stamford High School in 2016 before being named Bunnell’s 7th head coach in March 2019.
Coach Jenkins is also a Special Education teacher at Bunnell High School, where he continues to positively impact both the academic and athletic lives of his students.
