Mount Kitanglad is a mountain range found in Bukidnon and is one of the few remaining rainforests in the Philippines.
The name "Kitanglad" comes from a story about a big flood that covered the lands of Bukidnon, leaving only the top of a mountain visible, which looked like a piece of lemongrass or "tanglad" in Visayan, and "kita," which means "to see."
Mount Kitanglad is the fourth highest mountain in the country. This range is known for its diverse species of rare and endemic wildlife and its rich biodiversity. Visiting the slopes of Kitanglad can be a rewarding experience that combines cultural understanding, historical significance, and beautiful nature all in one.
Kitanglad is well-known for its trekking opportunities. The mountain rises to an elevation of 2,899 meters (9,511 feet). Reaching the summit usually takes between 4.5 and 7.5 hours, while the return journey typically requires 4 to 7 hours.
Many trekkers choose to camp overnight, extending the hike over two days. However, it is also possible to complete the journey in one day if you start early and maintain a brisk pace. Hiking up to the peak is quite difficult due to its steep path.
Nevertheless, there are available and recommended guides to accompany you on your hike.
