Our Mission
Our Mission
Built 4 Joy is a student-led initiative working to reduce fear amongst pediatric patients. We custom-design toy sets modeling healthcare spaces, alleviating anxiety by fostering familiarity with the medical setting and a sense of control within each patient. With this fun, hands-on approach, we strive to translate the intimidating healthcare environment into a tangible, interactive medium for children to explore on their own terms. We hope to educate, inspire, and promote a more compassionate and child-centered outlook on care.

Why It Matters
Health anxiety is a persistent issue for many, especially children in hospitals around the world. According to a study published by the Journal of Pediatric Health Care, up to 60-70% of children experience intense anxiety before medical procedures–directly affecting pre and post-operative pain, induction of anesthesia, and compliance with medical regimen. This fear isn’t simply emotional; it can have significant consequences on medical care.
When LEGO MRIs were donated to pediatric patients, 46% of healthcare professionals reported a reduction in anesthesia use during MRI procedures. The LEGO sets, being a miniature and interactive model of the environment, instilled a sense of familiarity and control into pediatric patients.
We see these sets as therapeutic tools with measurable impacts on patient well-being.

Yes! We aim to provide everything free of charge.
How is this different from existing hospital toys or models?
How is this different from existing hospital toys or models?
Current toys are typically limited to plastic stethoscopes, toy syringes, a doctor's coat, etc. They fail to reflect actual procedures, machines, and environments.
Our builds replicate each hospital’s actual equipment and layout, making them personalized and realistic!

LEGOs provide an opportunity for pediatric patients to personally build their environment. When kids can see, touch, and rebuild their hospital experience, fear turns into curiosity and control.
