A Prepper's dream!
Don't just survive, choose to thrive!
The Kratky method on a smaller scale
Take your vegetable garden with you on holiday, or when you move
Avoid scurvy and promote health when you are away from home
No disturbing of the plants for nutrient level checks
No algae growth on the root system
The pictures tell the story
When you reach the bottom, say Hi to my Minister of Agriculture!
OK, let's play
You will need to collect the following throw-away items:
Long-life milk or similar 1liter cartons with a hole as illustrated. They are lined with aluminium, and the reason I chose these is darkness. No light, no algae.
100ml yoghurt containers. The "First Choice" brand comes apart, and works well (a soldering iron to make the holes too).
Bottle corks, cut into three pieces
Lollipop sticks
In my case, 20mm pieces of toothpicks connect the beads to the lollipop sticks. Whole toothpicks are unnecessary and too long.
Colourful, easily visible beads
Drinking straws, cut into 30mm pieces to guide the floats
5mm drill bit for the cap
Some glue to secure the straws and toothpicks. Superglue works. The straw is to prevent the float from getting stuck in the cap.
Start collecting some larger rectangular boxes to serve as trays
When you have assembled a few dozen containers, it is time to fork out some money. The details are below:
