Marissa Taylor, University at Buffalo Honors Scholar
A local college student of the University at Buffalo Honors College, Marissa Taylor, realized one day from a reading assignment how short Buffalo had fallen from its potential envisioned by Olmsted. As a Communications and Political Science [Public Law Concentration] double-major with a minor in entrepreneurship, Marissa believed she had the tools to make a change. Taking where Buffalo is now and Olmsted's vision, Marissa knew she wanted to help revamp Buffalo in any way possible. Coming from a private high school in the area, Cardinal O'Hara High School, service was always a major part of her life. After living on a road parallel to many neighborhoods drowning in litter and neglect, she realized there needed to be a change. In response, she decided to create a service group and publish a website with a few other friends dedicated to beautifying Buffalo. Not only was providing service to the community a goal, but creating service and leadership opportunities for local high school students to connect with their peers.
