State

By: Haley Patterson

On April 26th and 27th, Emily Garcia competed to go to state in the 200m dash. Emily won second place with a time of 25.43. Now she is headed for state on May 10th and 11th.

Going to state can be nerve racking because you don’t know what to expect, but thankfully Emily got the chance to go to state last year as well. “Since I went to state last year, I felt less nervous about how everything looks like, but I was still just as nervous about competing,” said Emily.

Many people after going to state just expect to go the following year, but not Emily. “Because I went last year I hoped that I would go again, but you still have to focus on getting in shape before even thinking about state,” said Emily.

Everyday Emily will run timed 200m, she will pull sleds, and she works on her lean. Luckily, Emily doesn’t have to workout alone. Many of the other track girls stay after school to run with Emily. This makes it easier because now Emily has other girls to compete with to make her work harder.

Overall, going to state is a big deal. Emily Garcia worked hard to get there last year and worked even harder to get there this year. And as we can tell all of her hard work and dedication to track paid off, she deserves it.
