Tailored support to help your child soar!
I am licensed as an elementary school teacher centered on individual learning styles and focusing on a positive learning environment. I received my Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education with an endorsement in English as a Second Language in 2015 from the University of Nevada - Reno. I have taught children as young as two through high school level. I have experience as a classroom teacher, an intervention specialist, a private tutor and in curriculum development at a private school. One-on-one and small group tutoring have always been my favorite ways to teach because I can really tailor the material to reach students' goals.
I offer three approaches to tutoring:
1. Homework support and additional exercises to enhance and optimize their current school curriculum.
2. Homeschool support: As a curriculum developer and private tutor, I can offer a broad spectrum of services ranging from planning curriculum to guidance through your family's selected materials.
2. Knowledge gap assessments to identify and correct deficiencies to reach required proficiency, meeting or exceeding peer skill levels. This is a great choice for students who are still feeling the educational effects from the pandemic.
a. Math: I use a multi-sensory approach to help students really visualize and touch mathematical concepts. I love using the Math-U-See curriculum to help build basic building blocks that may need strengthened. For a deeper dive into understanding more abstract concepts, multistep problems, and word problems, I have a variety of strategies and supplement with EngageNY Curriculum.
b. Reading/Writing: I never want a child to feel frustrated while reading. It is such an enjoyable activity when it doesn't feel so hard. I will assess your child's reading level to find strategies to decode and comprehend before, during, and after reading. I am trained to use Orton-Gillingham strategies which was originally designed for students with dyslexia but is widely effective for all readers!
I tutor in Verrado and surrounding areas of Buckeye and Litchfield Park. I can tutor your student in my home, come to your home, or work over a video chat - whichever way your student learns best!
My rates are $35 per hour for homework support and $45 per hour for tailored tutoring. I have a traveling fee of $10 per session for distances greater than 15 minutes from my home in Verrado to account for gas and commute time.
I tutor all subjects pre-K through 8th grade. I have taught basic phonics to emergent readers, thematic language comprehension to skilled readers and everything in between. In mathematics, I can teach basic number sense all the way up to algebra.
