In the near future, the world is overcome by bubbles that break the laws of reality. An explosion at Tokyo Tower concentrates all the bubbles in Tokyo, but makes the city uninhabitable. Various young folk defy the restrictions, and live there anyway, using parkour tournaments as a means to barter and trade supplies. In one parkour team, the Blue Blazes, 18 year old Hibiki is an exceptional parkour talent, but he avoids others due to a hearing ultrasensitivity. Tokyo Tower continues to be an impossible location to get to because of gravity anomalies.

One day, Hibiki attempts to climb the tower because he hears a woman's song, and believes he sees a boy there. He almost makes it, but ends up falling into the ocean, where his final exhale combines with some of the bubbles to make a young girl. She is clearly new to being a human, but learns quickly from others. Hibiki names her "Uta" ("Song") because she knows the song he hears in his head. Uta and Hibiki train parkour together, beating a team called the Morticians/Undertakers, however, in one final catch, when Uta touches Hibiki, her arm fades away into bubbles. Bubble activity starts up again, so the Tokyo residents need to flee. Uta goes to Tokyo Tower to stop it. Hibiki goes to save her.

In the final scene they save each other, but Uta fades into bubbles as in the original fairy tale from Hans Christian Andersen: "The Little Mermaid." In her final breath, she tells Hibiki that he made it worth it for her to be human. With the bubbles gone, the citizens of Tokyo return and start to rebuild. The parkour teams continue their lives too. Whether real or imagined, in the end credits Hibiki is still continuing to do parkour and there is a bubble following him which could imply it is Uta.

The first time I saw a snot bubble was in Doraemon, in one of the many scenes where the lazy Nobita was asleep. Sometimes you'll see snot bubbles in anime too, where they gently inflate and deflate as someone breathes, or disappear with a pop when that person wakes. Unlike nosebleeds, snot bubbles seem to happen to both guys and girls.

The cast is made up of veteran and newcomer voice actors. Jun Shison voices Hibiki, a Parkour ace with a reckless streak. . Shison is best known for his live-action work in Senpai to Kanojo, The Prince of Tennis stage musical, and the Super Sentai series. Musical artist Riria voices Uta, a girl with mysterious powers. The relative newcomers to voice acting are joined by more veteran actors like Mamoru Miyano (Death Note, Steins;Gate) as Shin, Yuki Kaji (Attack on Titan, Seven Deadly Sins) as Kai, and Shin-ichiro Miki (Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) as Kant Mad Lobster. Additionally, Alice Hirose voices Makoto, a scientist who investigates the bubbles that have fallen, Sayaka Senbongi as Usagi, Tasuku Hatanaka as Denki Ninja, and Marina Inoue as Undertaker.

Just as with many animated movies these days, music is a crucial component of the overall experience. Bubble does not disappoint. The film is scored by composer Hiroyuki Sawano. Best known for his work on anime series, television dramas, and films, Sawano brings veteran expertise. Listeners will be familiar with his work on shows like Attack on Titan, The Seven Deadly Sins, and Kill la Kill, among others.

Netflix announced the new original anime by Wit Studio in December 2021. The collaboration stems from a business alliance between Netflix, Production I.G, and BONES in 2018. Wit Studio is also producing the original anime Vampire in the Garden, which is supposed to debut on Netflix in 2022.

Bubble has a powerhouse team of well-known artists collaborating on it. It is produced by Wit Studio, the studio behind the first three seasons of Attack on Titan. The director, Tetsur Araki, is known for his work on Attack on Titan Seasons 1-3, and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. The writer, Gen Urobuchi, is the co-creator of the acclaimed anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which earned him the Tokyo Anime Award for Best Scriptwriter, as well as the animes Psycho-Pass and Fate/Zero. Takeshi Obata, known for series like Hikaru no Go, Death Note, and Bakuman, created the character designs.

One day, bubbles broke through time, space, and the laws of gravity and showered down onto Tokyo. Ever since, Tokyo has become an isolated place, one filled with the pain of lost families but also a new form of entertainment. The youths of the city have started a team-based game of Parkour in the remnants of Tokyo, which incorporates the bubbles and leaping from building to building.

In a Tokyo where gravity has broken, a boy and a girl are drawn to each other... The story is set in Tokyo, after bubbles that broke the laws of gravity rained down upon the world. Cut off from the outside world, Tokyo has become a playground for a group of young people who have lost their families, acting as a battlefield for parkour team battles as they leap from building to building. Hibiki, a young ace known for his dangerous play style, makes a reckless move one day and plummets into the gravity-bending sea. His life is saved by Uta, a girl with mysterious powers. The pair then hear a unique sound audible only to them. Why did Uta appear before Hibiki? Their encounter leads to a revelation that will change the world.

A romantic moment in anime is often accompanied by a pastel background with lots of bubbles. Nobody knows who wanders into all these series with an invisible bubble machine, but maybe they should stop before they get soap in somebody's eye...

Video Games  CLANNAD: Often happens to Fuuko whenever she gets overwhelmed by the cuteness of something (usually starfish). The scene often pulls back and shows everything looking as normal, but with (starfish-shaped) bubbles appearing only around Fuuko. The worst case Fuuko has though is when Nagisa hugs her, causing her to be out for several minutes. Of course, Tomoya won't let that chance pass by... Also used with Kyou in an extreme deredere moment during the "Trapped in a Room" scene, while misconstruing Tomoya's intentions towards her. Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten: By recruiting both Adell and Rozalin, you get a scene between the two that eventually devolves into them both staring longinly at each other in silence while the background behind them turns into bubbles and glitter. The regular party begins commenting on it. In Fire Emblem: Awakening, these appear in some of the special Love Confessions involving the Avatar. Granblue Fantasy: Receiving chocolates from certain major characters during the Valentine's Day event results in these accompanying special art of the choco-handover. In the opening of J-Stars Victory VS, after Medaka Kurokami calmly pushes Lala Satalin Deviluke out of harms way from a Getsuga Tenshounote which was sliced by Kenshin Himura by the way, Lala lands on Chitoge while holding her face tenderly. Love Bubbles ensue. No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle: Kimmy Howell, Loony Fan of Travis Touchdown, weaponizes these. Sengoku Basara: They appear whenever Tsuruhime tries to confess to Kotaro. Or just around Tsuruhime in general. In 2nd Super Robot Wars: Original Generation, the Combination Attack Royal Heartbreaker involves both Latooni and Shine surrounded by roses and love bubbles.

Video Games  In the Video Game Remake of Mario And Luigi Super Star Saga, Prince Peasley's Bishie Sparkle-inducing Hair Flip, which simply bathed the screen in blinding white light in the original version, also conjures love bubbles. Early in Yo-kai Watch 4, a Mimikin pretending to be Katie fawns over Nate. When "Katie' talks, love bubbles appear.

Webcomics  The Adventures of Dr. McNinja: Played for laughs when the Doc gets them merely from being complimented by the Ultimate Diplomat. Link. Played for Laughs in Bittersweet Candy Bowl. Paulo and the (inanimate doll) Alegria; it still makes the girls giggle. Lampshaded with McCain getting a headache from the bubbles as he stares at Sue. Girl Genius: When Agatha gives Gil a big goodbye smooch the background is filled with roses and bubbles. The Alt Text in this Mokepon mentions how silly it is to draw them for candy.

The film takes place five years after a catastrophe flooded Tokyo and enclosed the city in a giant bubble that distorts gravity. Though most people chose to leave, Tokyo quickly became a playground for the many children left behind. Now the ruins of Japan's former capital have become an obstacle course in a dangerous new sport, "Tokyo Battlekour," a race where kids climb the ruins, evade dangerous floating bubbles, and compete to gain supplies like food, beer, and fuel.

Without a doubt, the biggest strength of the film is its visuals. Studio Wit has spent the past decade building a name for themselves as one of the most impressive anime studios around: Whether it's turning Attack on Titan into a pop-culture juggernaut, making an acclaimed adaptation of the popular manga Vinland Saga, or last year's surprisingly excellent Ranking of Kings, the studio is adept at using the language of animation to create unique shows. Bubble is their first wholly original concept since 2013's Hal, and it proves how far the studio has come.

Tetsuro Araki and his team give us dynamic camera movements that swirl and jump around with the characters, seamlessly mixing 2D and 3D animation in sequences that feel like the evolution of the 3D maneuver sequences in Attack on Titan. The first time we see Hibiki in action, where he effortlessly navigates floating debris, bubbles, and violent competitors, is an awe-inspiring moment that could only be done in animation. 2351a5e196
