A candidate who have passed B. Sc. degree examination with Physics as Major andMathematics and Chemistry as Ancillary subjects
Objective
o The M.Sc., (Physics) programme has been designed with the objective to provide basic foundations with a sound knowledge of underlying principles along with recent developments.
o To acquire knowledge about the nature, concepts, methods, techniques and objectives in the core physics subjects like Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy, Statistical Mechanics, Nuclear Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Optics, Semiconductor Physics, etc.,
o To develop an enhanced skill set that will put the learners at an advantage in careers as diverse as physics, bio-physics, bio-chemistry, quantum chemistry, applied mathematics, education and computer science.
o This programme offers the professional skills necessary for the students to play a meaningful role in industrial and academic career at national and international level.
Outcome
After the successful completion of M. Sc., (PHYSICS) program, the students are expected to have
o Problem Analysis Skill – Ability to identify and analyze complex Physics problems using the Physics principles / mathematical tools.
o Acquired skills will put the learners at an advantage in careers as diverse as physics, material physics, bio-physics, quantum physics, bio-medical, applied mathematics, education and computer science.

M. Phil. (Physics)
Eligibility
To apply for the M. Phil. program, the candidate requires a minimum score of 10 marks out of 35 in the common eligibility test conducted by the Bharathiar University for admission to M. Phil programme.
However, the candidates who qualify in UGC-NET (including JRF) / UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF) / SLET / SET / GATE, scientists working in DRDO, faculty of Air Force Administrative College, holders of teacher fellowship (like FIP and FDP) and candidates of foreign origin possessing prescribed qualifications shall be exempted from appearing CET.
Apart from the prescribed requirement of marks, the selection of the candidates shall be made subject to the availability of vacancies with the research supervisors in the Department.

o The presentation skills, report writing skills will be imparted through periodical group discussions and through weekly seminars.
o To develop an enhanced skill set that will put the budding researchers at an advantage in careers as diverse as physics, bio-physics, bio-chemistry, quantum chemistry, applied mathematics, education and computer science.
o This programme offers the professional skills necessary for the students to play a meaningful role in industrial and academic career at national and international level.
