Project Atlas

Project Atlas is a biomechatronic prosthetic design that bridges the gap between traditional mechanical prosthetics and proprietary biomechatronic prosthetics.

Problem

Individuals with above knee lower extremity amputations have difficulty with normal activities with existing passive mechanical prosthetics.

High Level Conceptual Design

This video depicts a high level conceptual design of BTOs biomechatronic prosthetic leg. Presented is a leg with a two degree of freedom ankle and a one degree of freedom knee. The ankle actuates in dorsiflexion, plantar flexion, inversion, and eversion, these articulations of the ankle allow for more fluid control. The knee rotates in extension and flexion which allows for an important control of the leg.
