"This poem tells the story of the newly hired community coordinator at my BTG site. It explores her journey alongside the community and finding support and purpose at the site, known to the community as the Spot. The poem explores safety, hardship, and the small ways hope can show up, just around the corner."

I believe the best way to tell the story of the Philadelphia Senior Center is by letting the staff and members share one thing they are thankful for since joining or working at the site. Most people wrote about something they loved or were grateful for, and I enjoyed this project because it made everyone pause and reflect. Even when some felt challenged to pick just one thing, they smiled when they finally found the right words. Whether it was the staff, the members, the classes, or personal qualities they gained, each response carried a memory or story behind it. This project felt impactful because everyone who participated was proud of what they shared, and I decided to frame it so the site could hang it wherever they wished. They appreciated this option because it serves as a lasting reminder of the time we spent with them. Even though Yanira and I will no longer be there, their memories of us and our words on this poster will stay. laris

"This mosaic captures the spirit of Philly Track Jawn, a community-driven movement built on inclusion, resilience, and collective identity. Blending imagery of track, city, and people, the piece symbolizes how a simple idea grew into a vibrant, evolving space for connection, healing, and purpose. It's not just about running; it's about creating a place where everyone belongs."
