I received a letter today from BT saying I have to 'download the new BT Virus Protect Powered by Norton'. To update I was told to go to www.bt.com/update your security. Update deadline was was 31/03/2022.

When I do as instructed this message comes up - 'Norton Security cannot be installed on your operating system'.

@JohnC2 - for the avoidance of doubt, are the conclusions drawn by @thethacks5 and @patsmith29 after your earlier post correct, i.e. that on iOS iPads and iPhones, no additional protection is required? Or is it just that Norton hasn't yet produced a product that passes the App Store's scrutiny - which could be a reading-between-the-lines message in your earlier post?

RNA replicons derived from an attenuated strain of Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEE), an alphavirus, were configured as candidate vaccines for Ebola hemorrhagic fever. The Ebola nucleoprotein (NP) or glycoprotein (GP) genes were introduced into the VEE RNA downstream from the VEE 26S promoter in place of the VEE structural protein genes. The resulting recombinant replicons, expressing the NP or GP genes, were packaged into VEE replicon particles (NP-VRP and GP-VRP, respectively) using a bipartite helper system that provided the VEE structural proteins in trans and prevented the regeneration of replication-competent VEE during packaging. The immunogenicity of NP-VRP and GP-VRP and their ability to protect against lethal Ebola infection were evaluated in BALB/c mice and in two strains of guinea pigs. The GP-VRP alone, or in combination with NP-VRP, protected both strains of guinea pigs and BALB/c mice, while immunization with NP-VRP alone protected BALB/c mice, but neither strain of guinea pig. Passive transfer of sera from VRP-immunized animals did not confer protection against lethal challenge. However, the complete protection achieved with active immunization with VRP, as well as the unique characteristics of the VEE replicon vector, warrant further testing of the safety and efficacy of NP-VRP and GP-VRP in primates as candidate vaccines against Ebola hemorrhagic fever.

This morning I was auto updated to the new BT Virus Protect on my android tablet, but when I'm trying to activate it I get a Server Error response. This should have been a seamless update. Also, reading the details about the new Norton version indicates I will only get 2 free licenses with my broadband package rather than the 15 I got with the McAfee version. As I use this product on several Android devices to say I'm unhappy with this downgrade is an understatement, and no, I don't want to pay more for extra licenses!

Thanks for the links, found to get the update to work I first had to sign into mybt and select an activate BT virus protect button. Also looks like I will get the 15 licenses for free as I have BT Halo broadband. Thanks again

Yes, had the same problem this morning, a BT virus protect update, tried to log in ....server error. In the end I looked on this forum and someone stated to log in to mybt and activate the new BTProtect. I did, it worked and I am now all set up. Merry Christmas, stay safe, be happy

Does BT Virus Protect protect against hacking? My BT email was hacked yesterday (the Amazon scam), causing enormous problems and one contact fell for the scam. I've now set up two-step authentication (with the help of a wonderful chap at BT's Liverpool call centre), but wondered if I need better internet security - I currently only have free AVG, which one computer expert told me should be sufficient but I'm not so sure now. Any suggestions would be welcome. Many thanks.

Most hacks are caused because the email account holder has clicked on a link within an email or downloaded something that the email said they should or because they received a telephone call from a scammer and they were persuaded to install a piece of software that allowed the scammer access to their computer.

If the person who was hacked received an email purporting to be from you it is most likely that your email address was "spoofed" (See link Email spoofing - Wikipedia ) to make it appear that it came from you and as such it leads the recipient to think it was a genuine email sent from you when in fact it is a scam email.

If the recipient either hovers their mouse over the email address purporting to be from you or checks the "headers" within the email they would see the true email address where the email originated from.

If it was the case that your email account was hacked I would suggest that you immediately change your password and inform your bank and any other company that has your bank details or that you use to make purchase that your account may have been compromised.

Thank you for this, although I really wanted to know if BT Virus Protect was worth changing to from free AVG. I have no idea how my email account was hacked: I never click on links in emails (unless from a trusted source) and I certainly never received a call from a scammer persuading me to install some software on my computer. In this particular case (and I have actually been on the receiving end of a similar scam when a neighbour had her email hacked), the hackers changed my password (which was strong), set up a fake email address and then "auto-forwarded" the replies to the original fake email to the fake email address. In the follow-up email, the scammers asked the recipient to purchase Amazon vouchers. I couldn't change my password until BT helped me regain access to my email account; BT also helped me remove the fake email address and the auto-forwarding (a feature that I never knew existed until now).

You can check out AVG's website about email hacking by searching for "AVG how to tell if your email is hacked" which will give you a lot of useful information and if you substitue AVG with Norton you will get Norton's information and you can then make an informed decision.

During the installation process, BT Virus Protect powered by Norton will detect any other anti-virus software (including BT Virus Protect powered by McAfee) on your device and offer to uninstall it for you.

Please note: you must have the My BT app installed on your device and log in using the BT ID username and password with Account Holder status. To check the status, view Your Account details.

Using the same or weak passwords can make your accounts vulnerable to attack by hackers. With BT you can get Norton Password Manager where you can create strong passwords and securely store and manage them all in a single location.

The password manager will help you create complex passwords and store them online, along with credit card information and other credentials, in your own personal encrypted cloud-based vault to help you transact more safely online.

On Mac and Windows devices, it will also show you the health of the passwords stored in your vault: providing an informative view about weak, guessable, duplicate and old passwords, to help improve your online password security health.

Ensure your device is connected to the internet when you attempt to remove a Norton service installed on it. If your device is not connected to the internet, the removal process will complete when the device next connects to the internet.

Norton Password Manager does not support Vault Password Recovery. The password reset option is only available on devices that have biometric authentication support. You need to set up biometric authentication on your device and unlock the vault once to use the password reset feature.

Mobile devices have a specially designed secure hardware storage, known as secure enclave, which is highly resistant to unauthorised access. Norton make use of this feature, along with biometric authentication, in their Password Manager apps for Android and iOS to reset your vault password. 152ee80cbc
