International Climate Team

About Us

Welcome to the International Climate Team at Boise State University!

The International Climate Team is a student organization that aims to get students involved in developing powerful, cost effective weather stations for studying the effects of climate change on a local, national, and global scale. This is done through new technology innovations and student coordination across a broad spectrum of declared majors. The International Climate Team is also committed to promoting innovation and cooperation both within Boise State University and the community to better understand how climates affect us.

During our weekly meetings, students with diverse skillsets, such as computer science, geosciences, and electrical engineering, work together to build weather stations and sensors. These weather stations then collect data used to analyze the local climate. The International Climate Team promotes STEM development by teaching its members how to code, build, and wire weather stations. Furthermore, we analyze our data to create a myriad of conclusions and predictions.

To create our weather stations, we are currently using Arduino microcontrollers and a version of the C++ programming language.

International Component

The International Climate Team is heavily affiliated with the The Trans-African HydroMeteorological Observatory (TAHMO), a group that "aims to develop a vast network of weather stations across Africa. Current and historic weather data is important for agricultural, climate monitoring, and many hydro-meteorological applications." (TAHMO). TAHMO is attempting to place many weather stations across Africa by installing the weather stations at schools.

ICT aids TAHMO by participating in its School-2-School program, which helps African schools aiming to build their own weather stations. This is done through fundraising for the partner school, as well as building a community where schools may communicate and share ideas.

The International Climate Team here at Boise State University is currently attempting to gain a partner school through outreach with TAHMO.
