EVENT INFORMATION

Conference shape:

• The conference will be held in person at the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK, over three full days from Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd May 2026.

• This year we seek to provide a space for speakers across multiple parallel tracks – depending on the number of accepted abstracts. Papers will be 20 minutes long, with time for questions and answers after each. Papers will be grouped into thematic panels.

• Keynote presentations by leaders in the field will take place over the three days of the event, and will span all tracks so all participants can attend. Keynotes will be announced during the call for abstracts – keep an eye out on the conference website and BSP social channels.

• There will be an option for all people presenting a paper to have their presentation recorded for the BSP Podcast.

• There will be an optional conference meal on the second evening of the event.

General registration information:

• The conference registration system will open soon after we inform all the people who submitted a proposal of the outcome of their submission. Successful participants will be notified when the system opens, and will need to register before the end of March 2026. Early registration is required by presenters in order to schedule and promote the event; delegate registration will remain open until a week or so prior to the event.

• We envisage the conference fee this year to be the same as 2023, 2024, and 2025, with an early bird fee of £150. However, setting the fee may be dependent upon the number of submissions accepted for presentation during the review phase of the event.

• To attend BSP events, speakers and delegates need to be members of the British Society for Phenomenology. If you are not already a member, membership (standard and concessionary, £40 and £20 respectively) will be added to the conference fee. When you become a member, you receive access to the Journal of the British Society for Phenomenology online for one year. JBSP Online publishes around 25 new research articles a year, and membership includes access to 55+ years of the JBSP. • The registration fee includes refreshments throughout the conference.

• The registration does not include accommodation and travel, nor the optional conference meal.

• As with all academic events, fees should generally be agreed and paid for by the participant's place of study or employment as part of their professional development. However, we understand under exceptional cases this is not always possible. Accordingly, applications for bursaries will be available for those needing financial assistance and are only open to accepted speakers. There are no delegate (non-speaker) bursaries. There will be attendance bursaries waiving the attendance fee, childcare bursaries, and the BSP President's discretionary bursary (a significant bursary for people with disabilities or significant financial issues of any kind). Bursary funds are limited, and if there are more eligible applicants than we can fund, the decision will be made on the strength of the application. These can be applied for during the registration period.
