ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
Who can submit proposals?
The BSP and the University of Sussex welcome submissions from both practitioners and philosophers - including those working in the European/Continental, Anglo-American/Analytic, and other philosophical traditions - as well as scholars from other fields who engage with phenomenology in their work.
The BSP and the University of Sussex particularly encourage submissions from postgraduate researchers and early career scholars.
The BSP is an open and welcoming society. We and our collaborators at the University of Sussex share the aim to create a convivial, inclusive environment for audience engagement by philosophers and practitioners alike. So, abstracts and presentations should be composed with accessibility in mind.
Selection process:
The deadline for the submission of all abstracts is 15 January 2026 (midnight UK).
Anonymised abstracts will be peer reviewed by members of the conference committee, which includes people from the BSP Executive, the BSP Events team, and the Philosophy Department, University of Sussex.
The review team members individually score each abstract, and the aggregate of the uppermost tiers are selected for the number of spaces we are able to make available.
The review team give high scores to what they believe to be the abstracts of most promise for presentation during the event, with an eye to the aims and objectives of the conference, the BSP and its co-organisers at the Philosophy Department, University of Sussex.
Unfortunately, we are just not able to accept all the abstracts we wish we could. Given the selection method, we do not supply individual feedback for any unsuccessful abstract submissions.
We intend to inform everyone who submitted a proposal if they have been successful or not on or by 1 February 2026.
Abstracts should be a maximum of 300 words, and you should also provide a short biography of no more than 100 words. You’ll also need to supply your affiliation and other profile and contact details.
We welcome multi-author papers. These can to be presented by a single presenter, or by multiple presenters. If presented by a single author only that person need submit (with all the other authors’ details added in the notes field). If to be presented by multiple authors each person presenting should individually submit the paper to the system (each of them including the other authors’ details in the notes field for cross-reference).
We also welcome pre-constituted panels of two to four papers. As well as a panel title and a 100-word panel overview, an abstract should be submitted for each paper, as well as biographies and details for all panel participants. Each participant in the panel should submit these elements individually (we will group them during review stage).
