The Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship is a 4-year degree program with a curriculum that is designed to a more relevant to domestic and global conditions and responsive to the fast-changing needs of time. It is designed to complement the country’s development plan which is geared towards the attainment of economic stability and prosperity for all Filipinos through sustainable management of economically and ecologically valuable resources. This program is directed to produce graduates who are technically and managerially competent agribusiness managers and/or entrepreneurs who will be instrumental in research, creation, management and sustainable growth of agribusinesses in the Philippines.
The curriculum provides 68 units of general education subjects to develop the scientific, social, and cultural orientation of students, 39 units of basic courses consisting of 27 fundamental agriculture courses and 12 core courses to develop fundamental knowledge in agriculture and business, 82 units of major courses to further advance the knowledge and skills in agribusiness and 24 units of electives and specialized tracks that will help broaden their horizon in Agriculture and Business Management.
The program goals are to produce the following:
1. Domestically and globally competitive agribusiness managers and entrepreneurs imbued with deep commitment to improve the quality of life through scientific and technological agri- business management education.
2. Broad and dynamic agribusiness managers who are productive and responsible leaders that help create manageable self-sustaining countryside progress and development.
3. Agribusiness entrepreneurs with enhanced managerial skills and expertise in planning and implementing agribusiness development projects/program.
4. To develop students and graduates imbued with desirable traits of cooperation, social concerns, and moral values for responsible citizenship
The minimum standards for the BS Agribusiness Management program are expressed in the following minimum set of learning outcomes.
1.1 Common to all programs in all types of schools
1) Articulate and discuss the latest developments in the specific field of practice (PQF level 6 descriptor);
2) Effectively communicate orally and in writing using both English and Filipino;
3) Work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams (PQF level 6 descriptor);
4) Act in recognition of professional, social and ethical responsibilities;
5) Preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural heritage” (based on RA 7722);
1.2 Common to the general field of Business and Management
A graduate of a business or management degree should be able to:
1) Implement the basic functions of management such as planning, organizing, staffing, directing, leading and controlling
2) Apply the basic concepts that underlie each of the functional areas of business (marketing, accounting, finance, human resources management, production and operations management, information technology, and strategic management) to business situations
3) Use the proper decision tools to critically, analytically, and creatively solve problems and drive results.
4) Communicate effectively with stakeholders both orally and in writing
5) Use information and communication technology (ICT) effectively and efficiently
6) Work well with others
7) Manage people and offices effectively in the performance of leadership functions
8) Demonstrate corporate citizenship and social responsibility
9) Exercise high personal moral and ethical standards
1.3 Common to the discipline (Agriculture Education: B.S Agriculture, B.S. Fisheries, B.S. Forestry)
1) Generate and share knowledge relevant to specific fields in the study of agriculture;
2) Formulate and implement of agricultural development plans and programs;
1.4 Specific to agribusiness management
1) To develop, produce and manufacture agricultural goods and services
2) Manage small and large agricultural enterprises
3) To process and market agricultural goods and services
4) Provide best solutions to marketing, finance and agricultural development problems at the farm, agribusiness and policy levels.
1.5 Common to a horizontal type as defined in CMO 46 s 2012
1) For professional institutions, a service orientation in one’s profession
2) For colleges: an ability to participate in various types of employment development activities and public discourses particularly in response to the needs of the communities one serves.
3) For universities: an ability to participate in the generation of new knowledge or in research and development projects.
Graduates of State Universities and Colleges must in addition, have the competencies to support “national, regional and local development plans.” (RA 7722).
