Chartered originally in 1956 by Northminster Presbyterian Church of Kansas City, Missouri, a handful of boys and adults began meeting to create a program for youth in the nearby neighborhood. They planned out activities, went on camping trips, and worked on advancement to begin a long list of Eagle Scouts to have come from our troop. Since its inception, the troop has flourished under different generations of leadership from both the boys and adults of this troop - many of which had ties to Northminster for many a generation.
68 years since the boy troop was initially founded (though only 66 years of existence due to an unknown mishap in 1957), we have had over 140 Eagle Scouts pass through our doors, and our tradition of watching these young men grow up into active leaders and volunteers, continues through this day. On November 1st, 2023, our official 67th year began a new era in the troops history, as we moved to a new home for the first time - Antioch Community Church of Kansas City, MO. And while scouting for us continues as 288, we plan to continue honoring the legacy of a troop that called Antioch Community Church their home for many a decade there: Troop 302.
Today, we have 4 Scouting groups tied under the 288 number in the Kansas City area. They each have their own history when it comes to years of existence, and each meet on a regular basis and cater to kids of all genders and ages, as part of the all-inclusive Scouts BSA program to promote leadership, service, fun and adventure:
Cub Scout Pack 4288 - Youth between K thru 5th Grade
Boy Troop 1288 - Boys between the ages of 11 and 17
Girl Troop 7288 - Girls between the ages of 11 and 17
