Bryn Stewart, PhD Assistant Professor of Hydrogeochemistry, University of Arizona
Hello! My name is Bryn Stewart, and I am a hydro-biogeochemist interested in studying how streams and rivers respond to disturbances, from storms and droughts to long-term changes in land cover and climate. I am particularly interested in extreme climate events and cross-scale studies that improve our understanding of hydrological and biogeochemical processes that drive stream chemistry behavior across different landscapes.
I use a variety of tools in my research, including process-based reactive transport modeling, data analysis, field observations, and small-scale laboratory experiments.
I received my PhD in Environmental Engineering and Biogeochemistry and BSc in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University. After finishing my PhD, I spent two years at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) as the Foster and Coco Stanback Postdoctoral Fellow in the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences.
I joined the Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona in January 2026 as an Assistant Professor. Please see the Opportunitiespage if you are interested in working together!
