But how did it all start? The year is 2016. I'm browsing the Internet, searching for barn doors. You know, those cool sliding doors that everyone loves. At the time, I was living in a home that wasn't necessarily the best layout. Cramped rooms, and doors that swung into the limited open-space, I decided that something needed to be done. As I am browsing the barn doors, I see so many variations and suppliers. I have a thing for novelty and luxury, so if you could imagine, the doors that caught my eye were pretty pricey. Some to the tune of $1,600 per door! The kicker...these were doors I still would have had to assemble and install myself. So, like any American struggling to make ends-meet, I have another amazing thought. I thought, "Why don't I just build this myself?"
Let the building begin!
After completing my very first barn door, I decided to take a stab at tables, desks, shelves, headboards, and other items such as home decor. Pretty quickly, I found myself building for others...and loved it! The messages were flooding in wanting doors, and tables. I even started a living room collection, complete with a coffee table and two matching end tables. Though satisfied, I did not stop there. My hunger to build was being fed, and I was not about to get full. Through the years, I have added many products and services that serve as functional, yet aesthetic works of art. They can strum up a unique conversation, gravitate your guests to a certain area, or completely transform the look and feel of the room.
How did you learn to do all of this? Great question! It sure wasn't easy, and I have been doing it since I could say "hammer". Construction is in my blood. My grandpa was very successful in the world of wood. Grandpa owned and operated a sawmill all the way up in Manitoba, Canada. He made this sawmill wildly prosperous, selling to the highest bidder, and living out his days in paradise. My uncle didn't fall too far behind his father. He opened up a construction store, selling rough and tough boots, clothes, and other personal protective equipment. Growing up with these two, there was always a project to be done. My grandpa designed and constructed his dream home, drafted after Cape Cod style homes. It has huge white pillars, beautiful landscaping, and astonishing architecture with the upmost attention to detail. Again, falling behind his dad, my uncle constructed his own house. This was an immaculate split-level, feet away from the cool waters of the Pacific Ocean. I distinctly remember hammering in a few nails, getting a taste for what it felt like to earn, design, and building something all on your own. My family would build what they could and learning to build what they couldn't. Those strong-willed, love to learn, builder genes, were passed down to me.
Through many fails and achievements, trials and tribulations, ebbs and flows, Brychka Carpentry Company was born.
