In addition to my research, I am deeply committed to undergraduate education. I have received multiple awards in recognition of my teaching, including the UNC Chancellor’s Student Undergraduate Teaching and Staff Award in Spring 2024 and the Department of Political Science’s Wallace Award for Best Teaching Assistant in both Spring 2022 and Spring 2023. I have served as instructor of record for three courses—POLI 281 (Data in Politics I) and POLI 130 (Introduction to Comparative Politics, twice). I also contributed to a grant-funded redesign of Data in Politics I through UNC’s Center for Faculty Excellence. Beyond the classroom, I have mentored three undergraduate research assistants on independent and collaborative projects. The following quotes from student evaluations highlight students’ experiences in my classroom.
Bryce was so excellent to have as a TA. I entered this class without a background in public policy or political science, unlike many of my peers, but Bryce made the content very approachable. We had discussions in relation to the class material but also on broader philosophical dilemmas. It is clear Bryce shares an understanding with his students and treats them with respect and kindness. I enjoyed how personable he was and receptive to feedback! He is truly an excellent instructor!
Mr. Hecht was a great instructor for the course. He kept the material engaging and relevant by tying it to current events and real–world examples. I appreciated how he prioritized student learning and encouraged us to participate. He was very encouraging even when I or other students volunteered and made mistakes, and would correct information without discouraging students for trying which I appreciated. It was a great classroom environment to be a part of.
Bryce really engaged with the classroom and made sure all of our voices and questions were heard. He was great at ensuring no one was left confused and walked through concepts easily. His immense knowledge really allowed me to learn with ease.
