Engineering Research
The study investigated the use of graphite, sodium bicarbonate, and cyanoacrylate adhesive in repairing damages caused by seismic activity on structures.
Three types of compositions are used in which cyanoacrylate adhesive is applied to sodium bicarbonate only, graphite only, and a 9:1 mixture of both which results in the production of a polymer that is comparable to cement.
Four models are constructed in which two bricks are conjoined horizontally with the use of the three compositions and one with cement as a reference. These models are then tested with weights to investigate their maximum load.
Results show that all compositions can withstand up to nineteen kilograms of load and have similar characteristics to cement. Other factors such as convenience, cost, and reaction time are discussed and compared among the models.
It is concluded that all models are only suitable for small-scale use at this moment and further studies can be conducted to investigate their potential use for large-scale industries.
