Bruno Rafael Santos
Data Scientist, Project Manager, Natural Sciences Researcher
Summary
I have over ten years of experience in financial management, planning, acquisitions, and compliance within complex Oil & Gas R&D projects. I have also volunteered at PMI Rio, where I led and supported initiatives in non-profit management, professional development, and knowledge management.
I am also a doctoral researcher in petroleum engineering, where I develop mathematical models and numerical simulations of oil reservoirs. I have strong skills in data science, data visualization, and data exploration in geosciences, business intelligence, and marketing.
One of my passions is mentoring young professionals from the North and Northeast regions of Brazil, as well as enterprises and NGOs with environmental and social impact. I am passionate about mentoring and developing young professionals, and I believe that businesses have a responsibility to contribute to their communities.
I am intrigued by quantitative research, organizational design, business analysis, and financial markets. I am a lifelong learner and I am always looking for new ways to improve my skills and knowledge. Outside of work, I'm a former swimmer, Tae Kwon Do, and IMPROV learner. Nowadays, I enjoy biking, literature, and language learning.
Finally, I hold certifications in PMP and CAPM and am proficient in R, Python, Linux, Tableau, and SQL. I'm excited to bring my unique skillset and experience to new collaborations.

Content Creation
I am a text person, so most of my materials are text, articles and essays. Have fun.
A large portal about Linux and programming. I write some articles and tutorials there as a community member.
My channel about Statistics and Machine learning. Still under development. I plan to publish large course-like content with supporting materials instead of frequent videos.
A blog about project management, mostly about Research and Development project management and innovation projects. These are my favorites.
My personal blog about science, mostly about biology and natural sciences in general. Sometimes engineering.
Development Projects
I am a hobbyist developer, I do like programming even it is not part of my job. That is one reason my PhD project revolves around data science, so I could code a little.

Programming Languages
SQL: A powerful language for managing and querying data. I am proficient in using SQL for website management and local data management via SQLite.
ShellScript: A natural tool for me as a native Linux user. It is very powerful for automating tasks and managing systems. I use it regularly to integrate systems and other languages.
PHP: Used to develop Drupal websites, so PHP was my go-to language. I gained valuable experience with object-oriented programming (OOP) and its applications. I still find OOP to be a valuable approach, especially for game development.
JavaScript: Proficient in using Ajax and jQuery, and I have also created my own libraries. I enjoy creating interactive websites. When combined with Python or R (Shiny), JavaScript can be extremely powerful.
Python: My primary development language due to its flexibility, ease of learning, and suitability for automation and numerical modeling. I have expertise in classic libraries like TensorFlow, Pandas, Matplotlib, NumPy, and SciPy. I also enjoy exploring standard libraries like json, multiprocessing, and hash.
R: A familiar language from my work with biologists. R is particularly well-suited for data analysis, statistical analysis, and visualizations.
Rust: A new language that I have been studying due to my interest in C and C++ for numerical simulations and Linux programming. Rust's promising concept and clean syntax have caught my attention. It can be used in similar settings to C and C++.
Human Languages
Portuguese: I am Brazilian, so I was born with it. It is complicated and flexible, beautiful once you grasp it. I can read, write, speak and tell jokes.
English: positional language, challenging phonetics, but it is a lingua franca. I can read, write and speak.
German: sounds beautiful to my ears, but has challenging syntax. Still learning. I can read and speak (ein bisschen)
Spanish: similar to Portuguese, but just similar. Sounds beautiful with an accent. I can read and speak.
