Why do I keep receiving an "account is invalid" error when signing up?
The reason for the error is to let you know that your FAU number is formatted incorrectly. Please use the backslash (/) before the placeholders instead of the dash.
Suppose you need access to reserving or assigning vehicles. In that case, you'll need to let your RA ( Reservation Authorizer) know to email us to grant your account permission to reserve vehicles and assign drivers.
Your RA will usually be a Manger, Supervisor, or Department Head. If you are a Manger or Supervisor, you will need to ask your direct supervisor for access.
No, you are not forced to request a Fuel Card.
You only need to request a fuel card sometimes. If you are expecting your department to pay for the gas usage, you can always pay for the gas yourself and then request to be reimbursed by your department once your trip has concluded. Otherwise, if your reservation is under 300 miles, you should fill up at the campus fuel station to be a lot more cost-effective.
There are multiple reasons why your account still needs to be created. One of the most common reasons is that an EPN form was not submitted, and we need to verify your driver's history to activate your account. Another reason may be a delay at the DMV in retrieving your record.
Although our website may say to email us to expedite your account setup, we cannot due to waiting for your driving record to come in from the DMV. We ask for four to five business days, but we average two to three.
Yes, all drivers with valid driver's licenses and clean records can drive for BruinCar!
Reservation FAQ
Reservations must be cancelled with 48 hours notice, otherwise a 1 day charge for the vehicle will be charged to your account. If a reservation is not dispatched, a no-show, the reservation will be billed a 1 day charge.
A one-hour grace period is given at the end of every rental period. Returning a vehicle after that hour will cause an additional day to be billed to the reservation.
Please call the BruinCar office to extend your reservation and ensure the vehicle is not committed to another reservation.
Customers are responsible for paying tolls or tickets while the vehicle is in the customer's possession. If BruinCar receives a toll/ticket in the mail tied to your reservation we will reach out and ask that you pay it. Department funds cannot be used to pay for tolls/tickets. Please report any tolls/tickets received during the return process for the vehicle.
Yes, you need to bring the keys to the vehicle along with the current (ending) mileage.
The fuel cards that each vehicle has have a maximum usage limit for daily use. When you're going on long distance trips, please let us know if you think you will need to fuel more often than normal so we can temporarily increase the limit.
Yes, vehicles that are returned having not been refueled are subject to a $25.00 refueling fee.
Kiosk FAQ
If it is your first time using BruinCar for travel, please try and pick up your vehicle during our operational hours in case your key gets stuck in the box [common occurrence for first-time users]. If not, please read our quick reference guides in the documentation tab.
If you are checking out a vehicle during operational hours, please call our phone line for support at (310) 825-2963, option 1. Unfortunately, we do not offer after-hour support if this happened past operational hours [Monday - Friday, 8:00 am -12:30 pm & 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm]. You can email us at BruinCar@ts.ucla.edu or leave a voicemail, and we can cancel the reservation on the following business day.
Vehicles can only be picked up at the scheduled time on your reservation. However, vehicles can be returned earlier than scheduled. Out of courtesy for the next driver, no vehicle should be returned later than 30 minutes after their reservation scheduled end time. We, at times, have reservations scheduled back to back to accommodate all of our customers, so please be careful about your drop-off time.

We are not responsible for lost or forgotten items in the vehicles.
Important BruinCar Locations
BruinCar is located inside the Strathmore Building. Lost items can be retrieved from the Transportation Office.
The BruinCar Structure 8 Kiosk is located inside parking structure 8 Level 2 by the South East Ramp Entrance of Level 2
(Coming Soon) The BruinCar Structure 4 Kiosk is located inside parking structure 4 next to the elevator on the North East side of the permit parking area.
On-campus, fueling is located down at the Fleet Yard on the corner of Charles Young Drive West and Charles Young Drive South.
Enterprise third-party rental pick-up location located on Santa Monica Blvd, South of campus.
Enterprise Truck Rental is located in Van Nuys off Sepulveda Blvd. About 15 minutes north of campus.
