Bruce Zou

A third-year Doctoral Candidate at the University of Pennsylvania, who is deeply immersed in researching organizational learning and workforce development policies under the supervision of Dr. Mike Nakkula. His focus lies in understanding the implications of these policies in designing upskilling and reskilling solutions. This, in turn, aids in enhancing the strategies of international manufacturing companies seeking to establish their footprint in the United States.


Bruce has had a distinguished career in international project management, with his professional acumen being a valuable asset to the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development. Where, he specialized in facilitating investments and steering international trade ventures from Asia. His extensive cultural experiences, rooted in his birthplace of  Shanghai and subsequent migration to the United States, have significantly enriched his interpersonal and cross-cultural capabilities. This expertise has been instrumental in enabling him to navigate the complex terrain of international business.


Bruce's contribution was invaluable in organizing trade missions and participating in key events such as the SelectUSA Investment Summit, China International Import Expo, China Smart Expo, and the U.S.-China Governors' Collaboration Summit. He also added significant value to panels discussing international economic development. His efforts were instrumental in attracting and retaining $9 billion in foreign direct investment, resulting in 2,000 job opportunities for the Kentuckians. His work exemplifies a synergy of academic prowess and professional dedication, making him a formidable player in the arena of international business. In 2019, Bruce is awarded the title of "Kentucky Colonel", The commission of "Kentucky Colonel" is the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky.
