MAIDEN, POWERSLAVE, CRUE/RATT PARTY A FLANNEL IN THE LOO, TURK 182 - And my fight with
Taken from a Facebook post
-
In June of 84, Maiden was in town the same night Ratt was opening for Motley Crue at The Beacon.
It was the week before I got offered L'Amour East.
Bruce needed a haircut so my buddy Jimmy Schulman (bassist for Hades) was a hair stylist and my buddy Steve (who worked with Maiden) set it up.
It was, Jimmy, Scott Koenig (RIP) and I.
We get to Parker Meridian and go to Bruce suite.
Bruce remembered me from previous times we met and was very gracious.
I forgot why but I had to wash my hands, Bruce goes "no worry, there is a flannel in the loo"
I said "what?"
He said "Chuck, I am explaining there is a flannel in the loo"
I said "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?"
Scott was cracking up and he said "there is a washcloth in the bathroom"
My response was "why couldn't he have said that?", Bruce said " I did"
He goofed on me all night ... fn British.
He then asked if we wanted to hear some of Powerslave ... we all said no and left ..
OF COURSE WE DID.
On a shitty cassette deck he plays Aces High and 2 Minutes to Midnight and it was awesome.
I am a 21 year old kid in Bruce's room listening to Maidens new album 3 months before anyone else.
I wasn't even at L'Amour yet but had this life ...
Bruce brings up Crue/Ratt playing a mile away and ask if we are going.
For some reason we weren't ... maybe it sold-out ?
He said he was invited to a party after at Heartbreaks on Varick and just say we are with Iron Maiden (he wasn't going)... frigging A.
We hang out and drink beers with Bruce and go to grab SKITTLES then Heartbreaks about 11pm.
We say we are with Maiden and get in, it was basically a dance club so we stuck out.
We got a lot of attention because non rockers figured we were famous ... pretty cool.
By this time a few girls we knew came in because they were hoping to hang with Crue and Ratt and I excused myself to go "SKITTLE" in the bathroom.
In order to get to the stall you had to walk past the sinks and mirror.
If someone was standing at the sink you didn't have room to squeeze by.
Some drunk guy was standing there staring at himself in the mirror and I asked him to move and he gave me a dirty look and kept staring at himself.
I said "buddy I will physically move you" and he said "f*ck off asshole" ...
You can guess the rest.
There is a big ruckus now and I know not to SKITTLE because security might get involved
I come out and one girl goes "did you see who hit <redacted>?" ...
THAT WAS WHO THAT WAS?
He was recently nominated for a fn Oscar and I ... err ...
So I see security getting together and I tell Scott and Jimmy we get to get out now
They hesitated and I reminded them I have the SKITTLES ...
We left without anyone knowing it was me who just ******* a movie star and Oscar nominee.
A month later I saw an ad saying "extras needed" for a film shooting at Giant Stadium called 'TURK 182'.
A girl I was dating wanted to be an actress so I went with her.
We get hired and sitting in our seats as "spectators" and they announce ... "OK everyone give a nice round of applause to the star of our movie... <redacted>"
Oh, f-me
I am 4 rows behind him, he waves to everyone and sits down and then turns around and sees me.
I am the only guy with long hair so stood out.
He does that 2 more times and the girl goes "it seems like he knows you".
I explained the last time I saw him, that I ... ... " and she said "you are fn unbelievable".
We got up and left and just walked around the stadium doing nothing for hours.
That was the only scene he shot, so it was ok.
If there was a 50/50 chance at something insane happening, it was 90/10 with me.
41 years ago ... I forgot all about this until a story about Bruce reminded me
PS: We never met Crue that night, but in May and June of 85, I did twice and those stories involve Tawny Kitaen and Rodney Dangerfield ...
