In addition to Pontypandy Modern, a heavy update of the original route released years ago by us, we will also be releasing a series of backdated versions of the route, each with period-appropriate signalling, scenery and scenarios. We aim to release at least five backdated versions, releasing in reverse chronological order.
Late 1880s
1900s
1920s
1930s
World War II
1950s
1960s
Late 1970s/early 80s
Late 1990s/early 2000s
The backdated versions of the route will be complemented by our large lore documents, describing in detail the history of the route from before its construction to the present day. Originally built to serve goods traffic from the area to the rest of south Wales, the route evolved to be a busy passenger route, an important part of the Second World War, to a neglected EWS freight route, all the way to it being revived as a heritage railway, where it survives today.
As per the route, Tales Of Pontypandy will return with upgrades. After the unfortunate circumstances resulting in the cancellation of the original series, we are restarting production with new scripts, a new cast and an updated format to be funnier and more engaging than the original.
Below are some questions and their answers relating to Pontypandy 23.
The original route will remain available to download, although will no longer receive patches.
Nothing - Pontypandy Modern will not overwrite the old route, so all of your scenarios or personal updates will remain safe. However, as PP Modern will be a major upgrade of the original, we would recommend moving to the new version once it releases.
We will not provide support for anyone trying to convert scenarios for the original route to use the new version. As the route ID is different it is not a drag-and-drop upgrade - you will need to know how to modify TS' BIN files at the very least, and due to the numerous changes made to the route we do not know how compatible scenarios for version 1 will be. We strongly recommend scenario creators to rebuild scenarios from scratch rather than try to convert them.
The version of Pontypandy (original) available on BRLocos Studios is the only official version online. Downloading Pontypandy (original) from anywhere other than the Routes page of this website is not recommended. We are not aware of how many versions of the original Pontypandy route are available across the internet - we have estimated at least two. All downloads for Pontypandy on other websites are older versions, but these may or may not share the same route ID as the official final version. Therefore, your Pontypandy installation will not be overwritten by PP23, but installing the official version of Pontypandy (original) may do so. Please make backups if you plan on updating Pontypandy (original) to the official version.
Yes, there will be changes in the requirements. However, we aim to remove cases of assets being one of the few used from any given pack, either by replacing them or creating new assets from scratch. This will reduce the list of required packs overall. When the route releases, please read the requirements. Please note that the removal of unnecessary asset packs may be a later addition, potentially after the release of PP23.
The stock list is still in development and will be released alongside the route. The stock list will be used for our scenarios, and will act as a guide for players for their own scenarios. The stock list is a part of the lore for the route, with each piece of rolling stock having its own story and reason for being on the line. Similarly, the lore documents will describe the history and operations of the railway in detail. Not only will this provide an interesting read but will greatly aid those wanting to make lore-accurate scenarios for the route.
