SCIENCE PRELIM RESULTS DAY - TUESDAY 20TH JANUARY
The science department will not be offering Easter School study support. We want to give you plenty of notice so that you can prepare your studying with this in mind.
There are a couple of reasons for this:
We want to encourage regular study throughout the year rather than putting too much focus on a one-off study session during the Easter holidays.
The teachers in the department work really hard throughout the year to support your learning and offer study support every week. It is important for the teachers to have time off so that they can rest and spend time with their families.
This will take place on Tuesday the 20th January. If students come to lab 6 at break time, they can get results for all their science subjects.
Students will feel either delighted or disappointed with their prelim results. We want them to use this as motivation for the exam that really matters.
If they are happy, fantastic! We want you to feel exactly the same when you get your results in summer. Keep doing what you are doing.
If they are disappointed, good. Use it as motivation to make some changes because we do not want you to have this feeling when you get your results in summer. What can you change? Do you need to ask more questions, do more studying, change the way you study or attend supported study classes?
Please feel free to contact the department if there is anything you want to discuss.
Thank you very much to Zoe Petrie, Rose Martin, Charley Crees, Thomas Chen, Finlay Aston, Claire Bouayoune, Ava Kerr and Christopher Johnston for your help in running the P7 transition event.
Every year, we ask our new S1 students to design a safety poster for the department.
The winner wins the chance to have their poster displayed in every lab in the department (and sweets!).
This year, the winner is Qismah Hassan.
We loved the clear presentation, fantastic drawings of scientific equipment and the colour really makes it stand out.
Well done Qismah!
Well done to Adam Curley and Jack McMorrine who won the prize for the best project. They completed an investigation into how smell affects taste.
Congratulations to the team for winning the prize for the most eco-friendly design. Well done Michaiah McKernan, Lisa Gaston-Arnal, Emily Hirst, Jessica Boag and Weronika Kubiszeswka.
Thank you to Jayne Culley for giving us an insight into the day of a real scientist.
The PicTours Student Photography Competition invites Scottish students to capture their surroundings — whether it’s a stunning Highland landscape, a candid city moment, or a creative close-up.
The only rule?
Photos must be taken on a smartphone. No DSLR or professional cameras allowed.
There are no restrictions on editing. Students can crop, filter, or stylise their images however they like. This contest is all about creativity, not expensive camera gear.
Join us at the Informatics Forum, The University of Edinburgh for a two day summer school that will cover the basics of quantum computing and what a career in research can look like. This event is tailored to students with an EH postcode that are leaving S5 or S6.
Congratulations to all involved and thank you for your help in organising the P6 Science transition event.
An educational science competition open to students from around the world: Unleash your astronomy skills and expand your knowledge through diverse problems that explore the universe.
Win awards and telescopes signed by Nobel Prize laureates!
