About me: Hello friends! I am a senior concentrating in philosophy. At Brown, I am a fellow of the PPE society, a member of the Irish/Celtic Music Ensemble, a writer for the Critical Review, a tutor with Brown Tutoring Corps, and I host a weekly Survivor watch-party (which you should all email me to join)! In my free time, I love to play folk music, hike, watch Survivor, obsess over Scotland, rock climb, learn about new people, go on adventures/quests, and play board games! After graduating, I will take a gap year before simultaneously applying to PHIL grad school and Fulbright ETA in Indonesia, Laos, or Czechia!

About me: Hi! My name is Cat, I’m a senior from NYC studying Philosophy and Literary Arts . I’m also a member of Brown’s chapter of Stop Torture RI and the Women’s Pre-Law Association. I’ve had so much fun studying Philosophy and have taken courses in all sorts of things, TA-ed Philosophy of Sex with Riki, and served as a Notetaker for Ethics of the Novel with Felicia Nimue Ackerman. This year, you can find me applying to law schools and completing my senior thesis! I’m a huge foodie and love cafe hopping with friends (see below). You can find me hauling Uncrustables out of Jo’s, losing at Mahjong Club, taking long walks down Benefit Street, and purchasing sweet potatoes at Trader Joe’s. I’m excited to meeting you and am always down to chat about anything and everything :)

1. The best study spots around Brown. My shortlist includes Corliss-Brackett (duh), which I’ve accumulated a surprising amount of lore on, the Joukowsky Institute, the Providence Athanaeum, and the Rhode Island Supreme Court, which has a gorgeous public-access library!
2. Cafes and food spots around Providence and NYC. I take Beli very seriously.
3. Employment at Brown. I’ve worked all around town, from Safewalking, to receptionist-ing, to Writing Fellow-ing, to waitressing. (This is how I fund item 2).
Specialties: I enjoy all areas of Philosophy but am especially interested in applications to criminal law and notions of personhood. Recently, I’ve also been enjoying nihilism.

About me: Hi! I'm Zoey and I'm a senior concentrating in philosophy, with a certificate in entrepreneurship. I am also a part of the Fifth Year Master's of Public Health program, which I will be beginning this year! At Brown, I am most involved with BWell in my roles as a BURP coordinator and Wellness Peer Educator, but I also do work as an RA at the Global Mental Health and Flourishing Lab and as an editor for the Brown Journal of Medical Humanities. You may also see me as a TA for Logic with Riki in the fall, or otherwise scurrying around Corliss as I write my senior thesis. Beyond that, my passions lie in puzzles, napping, yoga, and reading!

About me: Hey everyone! I’m a junior from the Chicagoland area concentrating in philosophy. At Brown, I’m a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, a Presidential Scholar, and a designer for the Latine School Newspaper—The Sol. In my spare time, I like doing yoga, sketching (urban and travel sketching), watching fashion shows online, hoarding PDFs, and making poor financial decisions at bookstores. I hope to eventually pursue a Ph.D. in philosophy!

About me: Hi everyone! I'm a sophomore studying philosophy and cognitive science. You can find me in the Brown's Undergraduate Law Review as a senior copy-editor, the Korean Language Program, and the Orwig Music Library front desk (I truly believe Orwig is the best library)! In my free time, I enjoy making candles, newsletter writing, cooking from scratch, making cute refreshers, doom scrolling on C@B, listening to K-Pop, and occasionally arranging my favorite tunes into a different genre. As of right now, I want to attend grad school to become a BCBA and eventually go to law school afterwards. I also have a burning passion for ice cream, so don't hesitate to reach out if you want to grab some together!

David Christensen (Director of Undergraduate Studies)
David Christensen (Director of Undergraduate Studies)
Role: As Director of Undergraduate Studies, Christensen is your contact point anytime you need advising related to your philosophy journey during or after Brown! He is also who you should contact when you are ready to take the great, beautiful, and deeply admirable decision of concentrating in philosophy.
About: David Christensen received his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1987 and taught for 20 years at the University of Vermont before coming to Brown in 2007. His main research interests are in epistemology (formal and informal).
His book, Putting Logic in its Place, investigates the role of logic in constraining rational beliefs and degrees of confidence. He's also written papers on this topic and others, such as: What determines whether a given bit of evidence supports or refutes a given theory? Can thinking about the meanings of our words help us resist skepticism? Does the fact that one believes something provide some justification for continuing to believe it? How should one's beliefs be affected by one's knowing that other people, who are equally informed, rational and intelligent, believe differently?
Christensen is currently working on questions about how our theory of rational belief should in general accommodate one's doubts about one's own cognitive reliability
