Administered by the College Board, the CSS Profile (College Scholarship Service Profile) provides non-federal and institutional financial aid for college students. These forms of financial aid include but are not limited to:
1) Scholarships (sponsored within or outside of a college institution)
2) Grants (including state grants)
3) Work-study programs
4) Student Loans
5) Tuition Assitance
In general, CSS Profiles help higher educational institutions determine how much non-federally funded financial aid a student needs
For the CSS Profile, you will need to provide the following tax documents:
2021 federal income tax return(s)
Any retirement plans and the total current value of those plans
W-2 forms and other records of money earned in 2020 and 2021
Current bank statements
Current mortgage information
Records of savings, stocks, bonds, trusts, and other investments
Medical expenses
Annual income
Assets in your parents’ names and also in your siblings’ names, such as:
college savings plans
investments
current home value and how much money your parents owe on their home as well.
** since student assets are generally valued higher than parent assets on the CSS Profile, it might be helpful to switch assets from a student’s name to a parent’s name before filling out the form**
Assets in your (the student's) name:
amount of cash in your bank accounts
retirement accounts
investment funds
