Family
My wife Joan teaches middle school art at MOC-Floyd Valley in Orange City. Caleb has graduated from college and works from home as an engineer. Alex has graduated from ISU and is working remotely as an engineer. Megan is working in finance as a data analyst at Trimble. The white haired guy in the back is me and I have a background of teaching science to both middle and high school. I am currently teaching at the college level which involves preparing students to use technology in the classroom. This website is a model for my students as they create their own website for entrance to the education program, application for student teaching, and for the job search after graduation.
1. For Instructional Tech: In the introduction, you will need create four pages to share who you are. Information to include: Name, anticipated license areas/endorsements, photo (or avatar) and a short short written intro. The introduction should answer some of the following questions: Who are you? Favorite subjects and why?
You should add an additional page to share about your activities, interests, hobbies, and/or skills. Include what you need, and decide how to make the layout look nice.
You need a page to show your Servant and Service - this could involved coaching, camp counseling, service projects, etc.
Responding to the Call - write an essay describing your path to becoming a teacher...so far. You need to add one artifact.
Anticipating your entrance portfolio, you are expected to add all of the entrance portfolio pages, but just with instructions.
To do this, you will need to copy the information from the pages Learner and Learning, Content Knowledge, Responding to the Call, etc. to create a template for your entrance portfolio. Create each page and then copy the contents from my web pages to your web pages. Once again, you do not need to finish the portfolio for this class, simply create all of the pages on your web site.
2. For the Entrance Portfolio: You will need to complete the template pages with artifacts and explanations. The entrance portfolio pages include: Servant and Service, Responding to the Call, NWC Teacher Education Program, The Learner and Learning, Content Knowledge, Instructional Practice, and Professional Responsibility.
After completing the online application, you will have a reviewer assigned to you. It will be someone in the Education Department. When you have completed the Portfolio, contact your reviewer and set up a time to meet with them about the portfolio. Completion and approval of the Entrance Portfolio is one of the requirements for application into the Education Program to become a teacher.
3. For Student Teaching: You will need to revise your website for application into student teaching. The website will be used to introduce you to a potential cooperating teacher. You are welcome to modify it however you see fit. Your site address will need to be included on your application to student teaching. Remember, this will likely be your first impression, so make it professional and positive. We want the cooperating teacher to welcome you into his/her classroom. Include a Written Introduction - This could include why you want to be a teacher, what you have enjoyed during your preparation, what you hope to learn during student teaching, and other related experience (camp, daycare, research, etc.). Secondary Students - Please include the courses you have taken in your major so cooperating teachers can see your content background.
4. For the Student Teaching Interview: During student teaching, you will be assigned an education faculty to review your exit portfolio. The exit portfolio/student teaching interview will include the NWC Teacher Education pages (with artifacts for each standard), Context for Learning, Video and Reflection, and evidence of student learning.
