As your Sheriff, I want to acknowledge Juneteenth, a day of profound significance in American history. It marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day is a reminder of the injustices and struggles endured by generations of African Americans.
Our commitment to justice and equality must be unwavering. We recognize the importance of acknowledging the past and working towards a future where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. We are dedicated to fostering a culture of inclusivity within our department and the community we serve, ensuring fair and equitable treatment for all.
Today, as we celebrate Juneteenth, let us also recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of building a more just and equitable society. We stand in solidarity with our African American community, honoring their resilience and contributions. Together, we will continue to strive for a future where the promise of freedom and equality is a reality for every American.

BCSO Celebrates Pride Month:
Hello Broward County, As you might have witness, the month of June is observed for PRIDE Month - this month is dedicated to bring support the members of the LGBTQ+ community. Bringing awareness and commemorating the contributes of their culture to our community.
Here at the Broward County Sheriff's Office, we understand and value the various sexuality within our department and we are extremely grateful to have them serving and partnering with our department. As it provides us with a stronger connection with the community. They are able to provide more comfort and service to their who are sometimes abuse and mistreated by law enforcement due to their choose of their sexuality preference.
As Sheriff, it's very important for me to be open to all types of personalities, sexuality preferences, religion, and others. This makes up our department, and helps us to better serve our community and build relationships that are forever lasting and so much more.
Love is Love. First Love who you are, then you can love someone else.

BCSO Mental Health Awareness Month
Hello Broward County, As many of you know, May is Mental Health Awareness Month — a time dedicated to raising awareness, promoting education, and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and mental illness.
At the Broward County Sheriff’s Office , we recognize the importance of mental health for our personnel, their families, and the communities we serve. Mental well-being is just as vital as physical health, and it’s essential that we create an environment where everyone feels supported, understood, and empowered to seek help when needed.
This month, we encourage all Broward County Sheriff's Office personnel to:
Check in on yourself and those around you.
Start open and honest conversations about mental health.
Take advantage of available resources and support services.
Help reduce stigma by promoting understanding and empathy
Let’s stand together to break the silence and build a stronger, healthier community — both within BCSO and throughout Broward County.
Remember: You are not alone. Help is always available.

DR. CHRISTIAN D. WELLS, SHERIFF
March 30, 2025
Dear County of Broward Citizens,
My name Christian D. Wells, or I’m known for C.D. Wells too. I am your new Sheriff of this outstanding department. It is a true honor to serve as your new Sheriff. Some of you may know me from Florida Highway Patrol, where I served as the Commissioner. During my tenure as Commissioner of FHP. I was successful in fully staffing the department with a total of 3 administrative officials, 9 high command officials, 6 law command officials, and a total of 4 field training troopers, and a total of 20 patrol troopers. We were a pretty successful department, with a large presence. I hope they remain that way.
There are plans for the department, and those plans will be shared below this message.
- Full Server Revamp.
- Revamp of Department Division(s).
- Recreation of Department Mission & Vision Statement.
- Generate a Department Website.
- Create a New Department Roster.
- Purchase New Equipment for deputies to use while on duty.
- Generate Deputy Code of Ethics.
- Create & Publish Department Rules.
Please understand that this are amazing plans, but they can’t be achieved without the help and support of you towards me, my administration, this department, and most importantly each other.
I look forward to working with you, and moving this department forward to its full potential.
-Signed,
Christian “C.D.” Wells
