Brooklyn ‘86 are a New Orleans–inspired brass band bringing the spirit of the Crescent City to Melbourne stages since forming in 2015. Drawing on the traditions of NOLA street bands and second line culture, their sound is shaped by modern influences like Rebirth Brass Band, Hot 8 Brass Band, and Hackney Colliery Band, blending trad jazz with hip-hop, funk, and deep-pocket groove.
With over a decade of performing, Brooklyn ‘86 have become a familiar presence across Melbourne’s live music scene and beyond, appearing regularly at clubs, festivals, and community events both locally and regionally throughout Victoria. Their repertoire combines original material with vibrant arrangements of tunes by artists such as Kermit Ruffins alongside traditional New Orleans standards like Down By The Riverside.
From intimate rooms to outdoor stages, Brooklyn ‘86 deliver the NOLA sound — the Melbourne way.
