My husband and I have lived on Toxteth Street for 25 years and have two grown children who graduated from Lawrence and BHS. As a TMM for more than 20 years, and having served on the School Committee for a dozen years from 2005-2016, I’ve tried to keep neighbors informed and involved, and to amplify neighborhood voices in decision-making while considering what is best for the town as a whole.
Affordability, great public schools, walkable streets, climate readiness, equity for all, and the effectiveness of local government are all crucial issues for me, our precinct, and the town. Most recently, that has meant leading an effort to elect a Charter Commission in Brookline, the first step needed for a formal consideration of whether to change our local government structure, and if so, how. It's vital that this important process of considering change be voter-driven so that it is truly a community-wide conversation about how we hope to guide Brookline's future.
I've also been proud to serve on the Brookline Commission for Women and to help lead Brookline's efforts to protect reproductive rights and gender equity and justice. I was the lead petitioner on the articles (now by-laws) to make menstrual products free in our public restrooms and to ensure that Brookline is committed to local enforcement of our state protections for patients and providers of reproductive and/or gender-affirming care.
On housing and development, I believe housing growth and increased affordable housing are both critical needs. I supported Brookline's "consensus" plan to meet the MBTA-CA zoning requirements and continue to believe that growing responsibly and sustainably requires informed town-wide planning with robust, diverse resident participation, not developer-driven piecemeal approaches.
I'm very pleased to be endorsed in 2024 by both Brookline By Design and Brookline for Everyone.
