Students in Grades 3-5 at Bringhurst are invited to join the ACSL team. The necessary contest materials will be provided to help the students to prepare for the contests.
American Computer Science League (ACSL) contests are a great way to introduce children to fundamental computer science concepts. There are 4 contests for the school year to test the following topics. For Elementary Division, there is no coding test.
Elementary Computer Number Systems
Elementary Prefix/Infix/Postfix Notation
Elementary Boolean Algebra
Elementary Graph Theory
Each contest consists of an online 30-minute, 6-question non-programming test, focused on a single category of content.
Students have to bring their computer and access to their personal emails (not FUSD email) as the ACSL test link will be sent to their emails.
Each student has to take the test independently.
Paper and pencil/pen are the only materials allowed. No calculators or outside help allowed.
While the ACSL Elementary Division is designed for students in grades 3 through 6, it's worth noting that in some schools, certain topics are taught later in the academic year for these grades. To ensure that the competition is both enjoyable and comprehensible for all students, here is a list of prerequisites for them to study before participating in ACSL contests.
Exponents (powers of 2, 8 and 16)
Use of parentheses for grouping
PEMDAS rule for expressions
General knowledge of Math tables
Application Deadline: September 30, 2025
Fee: free

Based on last year’s feedback, we will not display student names on the ACSL dashboard, allowing them to learn more comfortably and without pressure. However, please note that students will not be eligible to participate in the ACSL Finals under this arrangement.
If you wish to participate in the official ACSL Finals competition, please contact the advisor at clubco.bringhurstpto@gmail.com
