Lesson 1

Week of September. 2-6

Understanding Your Emotions

*How are you feeling? What can you say instead of "good"?

*What emotions have you felt lately?

HAPPY, SAD, DISAPPOINTED, UPSET, ANNOYED, EXCITED, CURIOUS, BORED, CALM, CONFIDENT, LOVED, PROUD, SATISFIED, LONELY, GRUMPY, THANKFUL, RELAXED, CONFUSED, WORRIED, NERVOUS, HOPEFUL, FRUSTRATED, RELIEVED, EXHAUSTED, EMBARRASSED, AFRAID, FURIOUS, SURPRISED, SILLY, CAREFREE, JOYFUL, INSPIRED, OVERWHELMED, CURIOUS, BLISSFUL

*Emotions are not always simple. You normally don't feel just one emotion.

*We need to check in on our emotions. What clues do our bodies give us when we feel each emotion?

*Everyone feels emotions differently.

Questions to discuss with your student:

*What are some positive emotions? Negative emotions? Are there any neutral emotions?

*What does "emotional awareness" mean?

*How can our emotions be beneficial to us?

*How can you be more aware of your own feelings?

*How can two people feel differently in the same exact situation?

*What does it mean to "manage" your emotions? Why might that be important?
