David Bollenberg, South Ribble Borough Councillor for the ward of Bamber Bridge West 2024 to 2027, had the idea for a litter picking team just before Christmas 2024 when he was walking down St Mary's Road and found rubbish blowing along the road.
After raising it on Facebook and receiving some positive replies, the first public meeting was held at the Bamber Bridge County & Catholic Club on 20th February 2025. The 8 local residents who came to that meeting formed the core of the volunteer team that started collecting rubbish a few days later. Brig's Litter Team, aka BLT, was born!
By the end of May 2025, the volunteer team of eager BLTers had expanded to 26 members and had undertaken 24 litter picks, removing 190 bags of rubbish from the streets of Bamber Bridge, and reporting 27 incidents of fly-tipping.
In June 2026, the Litter Team branched out to help rescue the Big Brig Planter near the Hob Inn as, over the years, it had been abandoned and neglected. The BLT volunteers joined with volunteers from Bamber Bridge Men's Shed to weed the planter, re-stock it with donated flowers in time for the annual Battle of Bamber Bridge celebration event, and then form a small volunteer group to maintain it going forward.
Please note that this group is part of the Bamber Bridge in Bloom community group.
