They bring lessons to the classroom introducing the children to fundamentals of movement, basic gymnastics skills, group team based games, sign language and kids yoga cool-down.
Homes for kids comes to the program twice monthly to work with the children on their social emotional development through a program called Jumpin' Jellybean Jamboree. Through this program, Miss Katie works with the children on developing the words to identify and explain their feelings. This is done through social stories where the children learn about a jelly bean with a specific emotion. The children learn about the emotion, how the jelly bean handles their emotion and then a discussion on how the children can manage their emotions. Through this program, the children are able to learn about emotions, how to identify emotions, how to cope and handle their own emotions.
Once a month the Niles McKinley Children's Librarian comes to the center to read stories to the children. The librarian selects stories that are age appropriate for the age group she is reading to. She sings songs with the children, uses interactive puppets, and props. Each month at the librarians visit, she leaves a tote full of books for the children to read through out the month. The tote contains a variety of genres, books on tapes, and props for the stories.
