The Problem Bridge Was Built to Solve

A hardware wallet cannot simply behave like a normal USB storage device.

Trezor Bridge provided an intermediary layer for this process.

If Bridge was installed on an older computer, it may still appear as a background process.

Trezor identifies the legacy process as trezord on Windows and macOS, while Linux installations may show trezord-go.

Users who discover these processes should not assume that they need to keep the legacy software indefinitely.

Instead, check the current Trezor documentation before removing it, particularly if the computer is still being used for cryptocurrency management.

Modern Browser Connectivity

The move away from standalone Bridge does not mean Trezor devices can no longer be used through a browser.

Trezor currently provides a web version of Suite that uses WebUSB. The web application works with Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Opera, while Firefox and Safari are not supported for this workflow because they lack the required WebUSB functionality.

The current web workflow uses USB rather than Bluetooth.

Desktop Software as the Current Option

Trezor recommends the installed Suite application for many users because it provides additional functionality and performance compared with the browser experience. The desktop application is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

This is particularly important because fake wallet applications can be designed to resemble legitimate cryptocurrency software.

When a Device Is Not Detected

If a Trezor device is not recognized, installing old Bridge software should not be the first troubleshooting step.

Make sure the device firmware is current.

Confirm that the software and operating system meet current requirements.

For existing users, the best approach is to follow current Trezor instructions before removing legacy software. For new users, begin with the current Suite setup rather than searching for an outdated Bridge installer.

The fundamental security principles remain unchanged: use authentic software, verify transactions on the physical device, protect the recovery backup, and never allow an unfamiliar website or support request to override careful security practices.
